DVRFlash PIONEER <Firmware name>

If more than 1 drive and you're flashing the A: drive then:

DVRFlash A:PIONEER <firmware name>

If you need to flash the kernel enter:

DVRFlash -f PIONEER <kernel name> <firmware name>

Please note crossflashing is done at the risk of the USER

DVRFlash HowTo (for Mac users with little command line practice)

To keep things as simple as possible, DVRFlash and the firmware file(s) should be side by side in the same folder, whatever it's name or position.
So, put DVRFlash and the firmware file{s) in one folder and have that folder's Finder window open.
Start "Terminal". (Double click Terminal's icon, do NOT double click DVRFlash!)
From the Finder window, drag DVRFlash into the terminal window. The complete path to DVRFlash will appear, followed by a space.
Now type "-f PIONEER " without the quotes; mind the spaces before and behind PIONEER.
Drag the firmware file into the terminal window. If you got two files (firmware and kernel), drag them both, one after the other. The path(s) to the firmware file(s) will appear in the term window.
(That way you created a command line with complete pathes, that works, no matter where all your files are.)
NOW press the Return key to start it all and it should work

The howto:- With thanks to Mike for providing this

for terminal issues, please read the following thread, for answer

When you list the DVR-112 does that include the 112D?

i think i am confused now. i see we have a compatible DVRFlash 2.5 for newest Pioneer drives from 111-115 which can be used on Macs now, but as far as i can tell there are zero RPC1 available firmware for anything past 110. i just wanted to get a confirmation and any updated info anyone with knowledge can offer. is anyone presently working on 111 and later? when i look at the last 100% mac installable RPC1 110D i see there are 2 files, a kernel and patched firmware i suppose which worked with DVR Flash 2.2. but now with the newest 115 and above i see an exe file and 1 other file. so actually we mac users still have to wait on 100% useable mac only installations of RPC1 above 110 with DVRFlash 2.5. is this correct or am i mistaken?

we don't need to work on 115, MCSE applies the RPC1 patch for 115,112 etc

is this MCSE for usage on Macs? i have never used it but the images make it look like a PC appz. i slightly altered my post PumaUk while you were answering my question but now i am completely confused.

how are we supposed to use DVRFlash 2.5 and with what firmware and what procedure to get 100% RPC1 drives on macs only for drives from 111-115 and later? might you stepwise explain what we will have to do now please. sorry to be a nuisance but i want to totally understand this on macs only

so these kernel/firmwares below are not RPC1?

Pioneer A15J/115(D)/215/212/S15J Kernel and Firmware

MCSE will work in an windows environment only, so trying it say in bootcamp or any other may work, i know its a hassle, on the edited question, a kernel is only needed on the 112/115 if the drive is to be crossflashed, otherwise the firmware file is all that is needed, the exe extracts and leaves you with a flasher and firmware file

no they are RPC2

ok i think i got it. we PPC users must be patient if ever it happens

PumaUK have you heard of any work being done on RPC1 firmware that would use only DVRFlash 2.5 the kernel+firmware to get RPC1 on a Pioneer 111-115 and later on a PPC machine? and not having to use MCSE of course. if not i will have to watch this site more often to confirm if anything arises. thanks for all the info i sure do appreciate your edifying me

there isn't anyone working on it, as like i said MCSE does the job, i understand your issue with RPC1 and Mac, i don't know if we could create some form of downloads, with MCSE patched RPC1 pioneer firmware, then we would have obviously people wanting the bitsetting patch applied, read speed, for some 115 models that have a riplock, so it may get complicated, maybe people can post if they would like that, or post if they can run MCSE in bootcamp or other software

thanks i think now i completely see the issues and solutions. looks like the simple days of getting to RPC1 are now gone for PPC users and even with an Intel Mac you have to use a PC environment for the MCSE. it is now clear

Version 2.5.1 is now released by Agent Smith, full changelog for mac fixes are in the first post. Agent Smith would like to thank the Mac tester, for all his hard work and effort in getting the mac problems fixed,

I had to extract the zip file with stuffit (d/l with firefox) to make it work. otherwise DVRFlash would appear as a document - just in case anyone has the same problem...

thanks to everyone involved!

I think its supposed to be so, but why would your MAC OS treat a zip file as document??

Yes, it would be useful to have, for example (like PumaUK said) an MCSE patched RPC1 pioneer firmware for the 115.

Many are not on IntelMac yet, so can't run bootcamp (dunno if that would work anyway). On PPC Macs there is the old VirtualPc available but I doubt it works for such purposes.

Of course a native Mac version of the RPC1 thing would be great :-)

With the new DVRFlash (2.5.1) can I flash a 111D with 111L 8.29 INT (Buffalo-Internal) or do I still have to go the way of - first I flash the 111D with the FW for the 111L (8.19 INT (Buffalo-Internal) *) and then with 8.29 INT (Buffalo-Internal). Befor I flash with 8.29 I use MCSE to change 8.29 to my liking and then flash.

Of course you can straight (cross)flash, but make sure you know what you do.

you can only crossflash if you have the kernel file as well as the firmware, there is not one available for the 111L i have seen, so DVRFlash will not work, the original way with the TDB'S flasher with built in kernel is the only way
