I guys,
The link posted by Jedidiah is dead. Could someone please send a new link ?
Version info:
MATSHITADVD-R UJ-867:
Model: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-867 Revision: HB01
It's in a MacBook white runing OS X 10.5.7 (Leopard)
Can someone check that the firmware works definitely under Leopard and NOT Tiger?
Thanks

Here is a dump from a 2008 MBP. I'm running OS X 10.6 on it, the dump utility worked fine. Code: manoa:matshita_memory stu$ ./dump compiled at Sep 12 2009 12:30:34 Appear to have a matshita at device index 0: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-867 HA13ÿ Reading a portion of the memory of the drive, assuming 32 bit address space Finished reading drive memory read memory from device 0, saved in matshita-dump-0.dat manoa:matshita_memory stu$ The characters after the UJ-867 seem to be Unicode, may not have copied correctly, or may not display correctly. A little voice in my head says this may be important. So, I've piped the ./dump output to a text file and included it in the below tar file. http://lanai.dietpizza.ch/stuff/matshit ... -0.tar.bz2 Thanks in advance to ben11 or whoever turns this dump into new firmware for my drive. As someone who has lived on two DVD code regions, and with a wife from a third, and DVDs from all three, the DVD region encoding scheme is absolutely mind blowingly frustrating. I owe you a beer. Or coffee. Or whatever works for you.

I downloaded the file matshita_memory.zip and clicked it, and it opened into a folder containing these files: dumpc example_obfuscate.c Makefile mscsci.c xsci.h It's not awfully clear what I should do with these to make the dumpfile. How do I use the folder and its contents, please? Incidentally, there seems to be a *Windows* firmware changer for this drive and revision here: http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=view&id=5641 - is there some way to make this work on a Mac?

Ok: Maybe here's a chance for the newer Macs with an UJ-8xx drive maybe: Apple just released a new firmware update for these drives a few days ago: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL975Good luck and Kudos to the peeps working on this! P.S.: If you need the SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0.app contact me and I'll upload it somewhere.

Here is the content of that package that is needed on its own.. the zip file contains the 2 firmwares and the util that can be used to install them.. im not sure if anyone want to look specifically at the files and the mac like to hide things from its users so i figure i would unhide them just in case. http://www.filefront.com/15149413/DL975.zip
