Nope. He's not read my PM as it's not left my outbox yet.

Time will tell.

Here is a UJ-846S F102 dump

DVD Info X output:

Vendor: MATSHITA
Model: DVD-RAM UJ-846S
Firmware: F102

I can't send this as a private message, bandwidth is no good. Please forward to ben11 or whoever is now working on Matshita firmware.

Hello Ben11,

I've been reading how you've been such a great help to many, many people and wanted to say thanks for the great support work you do!

I'm simply a 3D designer who uses the MAC kit so advice from you guys is just super.

Could you help in anyway with my current issue?

I've an iMAC 24" with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J FCQA.
Your previous patch for these drives are not compatible with Leopard OSX 10.5.2.

Is there any simple work-around I am missing or is it currently not possible to reset this drive on Leopard?

Thanks for any advice and help and please keep up your excellent work!

Cheers,

Richard

I don't know, sorry. I have the impression he is a genius on its own, he found a way to treat the Matshita problem, got us all important facts & info, but want to remain unknown for some reason (I can understand).

I see.
The fact is he's maybe the only one who know how to mod a firmware to get it working...

Because I saw on this thread that some user made available firmware's dump, but I'haven't see any RPC1 made for thoses firmware by Ben11...

UJ-875 DA09
UJ-867 HA13
UJ-857G Z111
UJ-857E ZF1E
UJ-845 D8PB
UJ-85JS FYX4
UJ-85JS F100
UJ-85JS F7W3

I thought he left the firmware scene...

That's what I fear too. PMd him a while ago, but the PM is still not read. :(

Hopefully he'll come back and is able to help us again. But I also could understand if he remains gone for his safety.

safety would have nothing to do with it, there a few patchers on RPC1 and cdfreaks, it maybe that he is busy elsewhere

Just installed a UJ-875 into my 15" Mac G4 AL 1.67GHz (DL SD). Haven't even set a region yet. Wanted to get a dump for ben11 before setting a region, in case comparing that dump to a dump with the region set will somehow help. Hopefully ben11 is still alive, free, and working on Panasonic / Matshita drives.

Here's what System Profiler reports:

MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ-875S:

Model: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ-875S
Revision: 1.00
Serial Number: <censored>
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 1
Socket Type: Internal

...and...

MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-875S:

Firmware Revision: 1.00
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Vendor Supported)
Profile Path: /Library/DiscRecording/DeviceProfiles/PatchBurn-matshitadvdramuj875s.drprofile
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RAM, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media: No

Here's what DVD Info X v1.0.2 reports:

Vendor: MATSHITA
Model: DVD-RAM UJ-875S
Firmware: 1.00
RPC-2 (region locked)
State is NOT SET
4 vendor resets left
5 region changes left
No region set

The drive was "Burn Support: No" so I used PatchBurn 4.0.5 to install the vendor supported profile. Unfortunately, that still doesn't result in the drive showing nearly as many available capabilities as the same drive shipping in Macs with firmware DA09. Besides the write formats that System Profiler reports for my UJ-875S, the firmware DA09 drives also have:

CD-Write: BUFE, CDText, Test, IndexPts, ISRC
DVD-Write: -R DL, BUFE, Test

Of course, my firmware 1.00 UJ-875S shows DVD-Write: -RAM, which the DA09 drives don't. Since I don't envision ever using/burning a DVD-RAM, I'm willing to trade that capability for the additional DA09 capabilities.

So, has anyone come across a UJ-875 flasher, for *any* firmware or any RPC? Has anyone tried the "uj875v102.exe" flasher that was located on ww.121ware.com? Is there a way to make a flasher from a UJ-875/DA09 dump to flash a UJ-875S/1.00?

And why don't people like Las Vegas and ben11 ever teach anyone else how they did/do what they do?

Yes I would like to know this as well. Can anyone including ben11 tell me how to take a drive dump using ben11's matshita_memory dump program remove the serial number and private info from those dumps and then create an actual working flash/crossflash firmware file from that? Something that could be used with ben11's simpleflash or even the apple firmware update tool to update an older firmware drive or possible crossflash a pc drive to an apple drive and vice-versa? I understand the whole rpc1 (region free) issue and why it is needed but in my case I am more interested in the updating the drive to a newer firmware and crossflashing pc<->mac drives.

that info and tools as well. I think it is time this Apple/Matshita DVD drive problem ended once and for all.

So to clarify this:

If anyone would care to take up this task and win the bounty(s) please PM me. I don't want to get into the details in this forum.

-Shawn

Worked fine on my intel mbp 2.2GHz

Hi,

Have been reading this forum with hope since I got a Macbook very recently.

On this forum, here have been various mentions/requests for a region free firmware for UJ-857E (ZF1E) but no replies from ben11 - or anyone else for that matter. While I would like to second the request, I have also been thinking along the lines of whether ben11 can be contacted to tell us exactly how he patched the firmware to RPC1 for all the previous firmwares?

Perhaps we could try and do it ourselves if the process of reverse engineering the firmware and changing the RPC2 to RPC1 can be done "mechanically". I'm not a coder by any far stretch of imagination, but I do get the feeling that it should be a process of

1) disassembling (of the firmware)
2) replacement (of RPC2 code/text RPC1)

I might be way off here, and pardon me if I am.

But if I'm not - we could do this ourselves instead of having to depend on our friendly genius, who I am sure has other worthwhile stuff to do.

I think that there might be a few among us who could try to follow directions on patching software if given clear instructions.

_chef_, Puma do you think you can get this from ben11? Or does anyone else know?

ben11 hasn't been around for awhile, any pm's are unread, so we cannot do much here, RPC1 staff where not involved with the patching, only ben11 can answer all your questions, and other members

Everyone take a look at http://www.sophieburns.com/UJ85J/

I finally unlocked my UJ-85J (KBZ8) within Leopard by simply editing my OS version number.
This method should work for all firmware updaters which wont run on Leopard.

Let me know how you get on

Hi there,

I have the MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-842 and I was wondering if the firmware dump had been submitted yet for this hardware unit!?
I want to perform a "vendor reset" on my drive, and was told that I needed the firmware to do that...

Thanks...

It is impossible!
ONLY Matshita could do that...
