I just received my Pioneer DVR-108 drive. Looks like it has the 1.10 firmware on it. I opened toast and inserted an 8X DVD-R Taiyo Yuden and noticed the option for '12X' came up. I tried it, burned succesfully. however.. after a few experiments I found that burning at 8x; from the moment I hit the burn button.. completes in 10 minutes. Burning at "12x" takes 12 minutes. Any idea what thats all about?

Also is there a firmware update available for it? I think I saw a version 1.14 available on the pioneer site, but PC only...

Take a look at the discussions in the DVD/RW section about the 108 burn speeds. At 12X and 16X, the disc switches to the higher speeds during the burn. Faster speeds could actually take longer to burn because of the time it takes to switch to the faster speeds at the switch points.

As to Mac flashing of the DVR 108 series, give me a few days. Version 2.0 of the DVRFlash utility and FlashIt script should be ready for release very soon.

Sorry about that, Didnt notice those topics. I have a question for you Las Vegas, with the OS X flashing utility.. will I be able to flash my 108 drive with NIL's latest firmware patch? If so, would I have to first flash it with the official 1.14 update from pioneer?
