Hello,

I baught a G5 with a superdrive pioneer 106D.
I tryed to flash it and had the "cannot set kernel mode" error.
I successed to set up the 106D in kernel mode with the command line "./DVRFlash -kv PIONEER\ DVD?RW\ \ DVR-106" and than I flashed it with the 106D kit from xvi.
The flash was good without error. I reboot my mac and did test, the 106d is not more eable to read or burn any dvd-r or cd on my mac. but curiosly it does on my PC.
Please can someone help me to get it to work on my mac ?
Thank you.

Doesn't seem like there is easy help on these forums when your in a tuff situation! :) From what I have read on theses forums, it would appear that the Pioneer 104 /A04 is the only drive you can flash over and over again... So in otherwords sounds like you are stuck.

XVI has indicated DVR-SK12D being supported in a previous response. I have looked and was unable to locate the flash for this drive on the French site. Is this the same as one of the other drives, like the 107D maybe? So far I have downloaded and installed the PatchII, and at least iTunes can now see the drive. In System Profile, Firewire, I get Disc Burning:DRDeviceSupportLevelUnsupported. I am using a Powerbook Pismo 500Mhz G3, OS 10.3.4. I do not have Toast, and will probably purchase iDVD. Thanks for all the help! Matt, Bedford, NH

All people with non-Apple Pioneer drives have been doing this for years!

Once OS X 10.2.6 was released, there was no longer a need to do this.

I need help in determining how I can use DVRFlash 1.2 Mac in flashing the Pioneer SK12D. I understand that this is possible from what I have read on this post, and simply want to be able to use this drive with my PBG3, via firewire. Please let me know if this is a wild goose chase... Tx.

OK, to be accurate, let's add the PIONEER DVR-SK12D.
NO OTHER DRIVES.

LasVegas, I thought the same and was wrong.
The starting post were never really updated, so I think it causes a bit confusion sometimes.

Sorry, I cannot. I'm Mod in the DVD-R/RAM/+RW Firmware Section only.
Only xvi or one of the admins could do that.

I am even more confused with the recent response traffic... Is it or isn't it supported under OSX?? That is the "DVR-SK12D". Thanks. Matt.

for those who are having trouble with media that doesn't work anymore after applying a firmware update in a mac, i'll recommend to flash your drive in a pc. at least that worked for me, after my dvr-107 failed to burn to officemax's (made by optodisc, i believe) dvd+r at any speed. Vaya con Dios.

Yes doc. Tried that. Unfortunately, the OS9 Patcher won't recognize my drive. It doesn't recognize my drive's current version number. I suspect the drive had been previously flashed on a PC since it's an Apple logo'd drive, but has a PC firmware version. DVRFlash would allow me to force flash it without the version checks.

Hello - Thanks to some of the mail I received now I have DVRFlash 1.2 for the Mac, and the two firmware patches for this drive. Now... the big question is - to put it bluntly, I never used "Terminal" in the past and don't know what the heck I am doing. Now that I have these components, what do I do next? I notice that some of the other patches for drives 104 thru 107 have some sort of a command script. I have copied one by opening it in "Textview" and tried to edit and resave as a command script for this drive. Albeit - to no success. I feel that what I am doing can be dangerous to the firmware if I continue winging this process. Maybe someone can give me a simple and final answer to my underlying quest: I want to be able to get iDVD, iTunes and other Superdrive compatible sw to smoothly work with this new external firewire drive that I just bought, my infamous Pioneer SK12D. If this is not possible anyway, I still have a chance to return this drive to the vendor and would prefer doing so without delving into its firmware. Sorry for the above being soo long, especially compared to the short cryptic msgs that you guys seem to be so good at... Matt.

Okay... A Step-by-step to flash without the script.

1) Place all the files you need (DVRFlash and both firmwares) into the same folder.

2) Launch Terminal

3) Type "CD " (note space) and drag the folder with your files into the Terminal window. Press Return. You are now using this directory.

4) Type "LS" and press return to verify you're in the right directory.

5) Open System Profiler and COPY the Model of your DVR drive.

6) Type "./DVRFlash -f " and then PASTE your drive's model name. Note the "Dot-Slash" prior to the command. This is to run an executable from the same folder. Don't hit return yet!

7) Use the backspace and place a '\' in front of any spaces in the drive model name.

8) Use the right arrow to return to the end of the line

9) Type a space followed by both firmware filenames seperated with a space. Your line should look something like this:

Hi, I just patched my DVR-106 (20inch iMac) using the new Universal Patcher (see hardmac.com). Before 1.08, I used 1.07 and had those weird "drive fried"-problems (not reacting after some time, even disabling energy saver didn't really help), besides, while watching DVD movies, the drive was very loud.

Now with the update, it's a lot less loud in DVD movie mode. What I'd like to know now - will the "fried" problems be gone too? Anyone with experience her in that? (the "drive fried" problem was very common, I use the last Mac OS 10.3)

I didn't reboot after applying the patch - should I have?

Thanks for all your help,
-m.

For some strange reason I was unable to enter kernel mode from the provided script. I used these instructions you provided the only problem now is that I keep getting command not found errors in the terminal.
I'm on a new eMac with a Pioneer DVR-107D and I'm the admin of the machine. I was wondering if I had done something wrong that my system would not allow me to run this patcher?

I am getting the same error message, "CD " (with the space and without the quotes is not recognized. All that I do is start Terminal, and follow the instructions but I can't go passed the first one with the directory change.

Hey I figured it out the problem, use lower case, ie. NOT "CD " but rather "cd ", and it works...
