Hello,

reading through various post in this forum, I'm getting quite confused by the amount of infos and their various "directions". Not to mention that I'm not a geek...

So here is my question:

I want to reset the firmware of my GDR 8162 B. This is what I've done so far:
Download firmware upgrade from the TDB (GDR8162B.ZIP).
Copy the file L015RPC1.exe to a fomated diskette

A) Is this the correct file for my configuration (see below)
B) Is the following process to reset the firmware correct ?
Re-start the pc with the floppy in A:\ drive (with Bios changed to check first the floppy), at the A:\ prompt, type L015rpc1.exe
C) Looking at the forums, I've seen sometimes that you should add a
number to specify master/slave number. Do I need to do this ? If yes, what number do I have to type or where can i find this information ?
D) In some topics, I saw that you should disconnect the other DVD drive to avoid any confusion, should I (at least for safety reasons) ?

Since it seems that changing the firmware might crash both dvd, I rather ask the question before doing it... I don't want to be stuck afterwards... Many thanks in advance for your help

yes you have the right instructions, the tdb firmware executables are self contained flashers with firmware,no additional flashing software is required, so basically load the pc into a real dos environment and input at a A: prompt what you mentioned, this should flash the Lg drive ok, no ide channel numbers required

Dear PumaUK,

thanks for your reply. Just to let you know that everything worked like a charm ! All set now to region free !

Thanks again !

Good4U

P.S. and note for the non geek like me, just one little thing... Under the XP environment, and when rebooting you should insert a bootable diskette first (press F12 to get there), then at the a prompt, switch to the other one where you have put L015rpc1.exe file, then run it...

Hi
I have DVD-ROM HL-DT-ST GDR8162B 0018.

Does it mean that I need to use C018RPC1.EXE to make RPC-1?

Regards, Kay
