Well there isn't really anything I want to know besides whether there's a code-free fw on the way.

Sorry, but I can't resist to call that being ignorant.
But that's only my own opinion.
I also would like to know more about this interesting SATA drive, even if I don't own it actually.

a samsung thread with no info, why didn't you just post a rpc1 request

Well, I havent been using these forums much before. But "DVD-ROM Firmware" implies talk about firmware, especially RPC-1, considering this website's context.

but a simple request goes in request firmware

Has someone try'd to make a backup of the firmware with mtkflash. I think there is a small chance that this still work.
