if you can't boot from CDs after flashing your
Matsushita-DVD 8176 it is probably because it became
a secondary slave on the ide-bus and the
bios cant see it anymore.
try the following:
dwl2 3 mz34.bin /p-sm
(or whatever firmware you are flashing)
-sm means secondary master, so the bios should recognize it again.
mac users beware: I thing Apple connected hdd and dvd to the same cable - that means afaik the DVD must stay slave

Could it be possible to use some similar parameters with the RPC-1 MX34.bin file to prevent it from setting the drive as secondary slave?
