I am not as technically advanced as most of the users of this forum. If posting my dilemma gets me results, I am willing to be the forum idiot of the day.
My Tosihba SD-M1216 will not read the data on a program DVD-ROM in order to allow me to install it (Microsoft Flight Simulator). I get a message indicating that the disk is either corrupt or the data is unfamilar to Windows. I have tested the disk on another PC and it works, so I am convinced the disk is fine. Does this sound like a firmware problem or does it sound like my troubles are greater?

I am not exactly sure if it is DVD5 or DVD9 nor do I know how to determine. I have the entire package here in front of me and I see nothing that indicates either. I know it is not burned.

If it is an original disc it will have been pressed, if it has more than 4.7 GB it is a DVD9.
The drives are designed to read DVD-ROM media, if they do not it is usually because you have issues with your system software or the drive is defective.
Flashing the drive will not fix either of these issues.
