Hello,
I bought a laptop BENQ joybook R56 with Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530B. But after 2 weeks it stopped writing DVDs correctly. It has no problems with reading CDs and DVDs.
Does someone know is it the firmware or something else?

I use Nero 8, and when the progress bar, while burning, hits 100% it starts again from 0% and ends around 10%. There is no error message and after that it can't read the DVD, but reads other DVDs.
I write a DVD again but with data verification. After burning it says that there is a read error at every fail and the verification stops because of the many errors.
The DVD is Princo 4.7 GB at 8x. I burned about 5-6 DVDs before the errors.

i would say media related, you can check to ensure the drive is running in UDMA mode, but princo media is poor

The media is the culprint here. Try with Verbatim.

Hey all, Im new to all of this so bear with me. I have had my Advent laptop for about 6-8 months now and within the last couple of days the Optiarc AD-7530B has decided it no longer wishes to work. The error message I am getting is that the device driver may be corrupted or missing. I would have downloaded it but since this is an optical drive I'm having a nightmare of a time finding anything for it. Can anyone help, I need this up and running asap as I have assessments coming up for uni.
Cheers

go into device manager, and under ata/atapi controllers delete everything and then restart

Hi,
I'm new to this stuff but to accomplish my work i recently bought a laptop Hp COMPAQ Pressario c770TU(only vista compatible) and the DVD stopped working after 5 weeks.
On checking the properties the information was "The drivers may be corrupted or missing"
even i dont find the DVD drive like "G:\DVD RW"
The details of the DVD drive are:
Optiarc AD-7530B.
provider: GEAR software Inc.
Manufacturer : Microsoft
version 2.0.6.1

When i tried to restore my computer i didnt work.
i took my laptop from a dealer very far from my job site. So it is practically not possible to go there.

I've an E System Laptop (PC World / Dixons) and only use (did) the in built burning function very occassionally.

(It reads my CDs / DVDs etc fine)

I phoned the PC World 'Tech Guys' who told me that the Burner Driver is 'attached' to the Hard Drive.

The only way I could resolve the problem was to install another CD Burning Software or do a full system installation.

I've done both and none have been successful.

I've contacted GEAR and although they have been very helpful they also cannot solve the problem.

I'm not sure if I've used the correct terminology - 'attached to the Hard Drive', as I'm not that clued up to be honest with PC problems.

All I can offer as some help, or if someone can help me, is the fact that no matter what additional Software I try to use - the Program (inc iTunes) will always recognise the Optiarc DVD RW AD 7530B ATA Device as the device to burn the disc.

I've spent hours trying to solve the problem but to no evail.

Regards,

Waddy

What problem should that be?

Thank you for your reply,

I hope I'm replying to you in the correct way and apologies for the delay but this Forum is new to me and I found it difficult to find my way around.

I cannot burn Music CDs, when I try I get an error saying that the 'disc cannot be finalised'.

I cannot do this in iTunes or from Windows Explorer, but only get the above error in iTunes.

After the disc burning failure, iTunes says it was due to Error 4200

I'm sorry if I'm not giving you enough information, if you would like me to list fully what I've been experiencing / found I will be more than willing to.

However, I'm not really that sure if I should be using this service or not?

Kind Regards,

Waddy

I suggest yopu remove iTunes, is is known to be buggy.

Burn CDs & DVDs with free tools like cdburnerxp, burrrn or Deepburner.

I've done the following but to no avail:

Deleted the required upper filters and reinstalled the latest Gear Drivers which did not work.

I then did a complete system restore (without installing iTunes) and I still could not burn discs as before.

I've also tried your recommended software, which failed to finalise the disc burn.

I've used the Discinfo file which says my firmware version is NX06.

I'm very sorry if I'm not still giving you the correct requested information.

This Forum has been very helpful but my head is now spinning with information and I've not got the required PC ability to figure out if I'm doing right from wrong.

Thanks again,

Waddy

Maybe try again with Imgburn, but then post a logfile here.

Sorry did not know that this could effect a burn and I thought it was set on the type of disc inserted.

I turned down the burn rate to x2 and x20 and watched the info page.

The burn rate starts at around 100 kB/s then goes down to zero and the disc becomes trapped in the PC due to the 'Unknown Write Time'.

I had to stop the burn then turn off my PC to extract the disc it was taking that long to finish the session.

This happened during the previous 5 attempts.

The following is the logfile from the last attempt:

20:58:13 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!
I 20:58:13 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (6.0, Build 6001 : Service Pack 1)
I 20:58:13 Total Physical Memory: 1,562,316 KB - Available: 550,876 KB

I 21:05:19 Filling Buffer... (40 MB)
I 21:05:22 Writing LeadIn...
I 21:06:58 Abort Request Acknowledged

If this is of no help to you I will fully accept that you have spent enough of your time for me and I will not feel at all upset if this problem cannot be resolved or I've not enough basic knowledge to help you further.

Regards,

Waddy

Maybe you could use Nero cd dvd speed and perform some tests, even "create data disc".

I hope this is of some help to you?

Conducted 'Benchmark Test': Obtained Error 030C00

(there was no reference to this in Nero FAQ)

Conducted 'Create Disc' @ X24

1st attempt: My PC froze / locked and had to be manually shut down (disc could not be ejected)
2nd attempt: Obtained Error SC51 Sector 1 (no exact reference to this in Nero FAQ)

Conducted 'Create Disc' @ X10

1st attempt: My PC froze / locked and had to be manually shut down (disc could not be ejected)

Many thanks again,

Waddy

Maybe you could connect the drive to another ide port (and re-check the jumper settings too).

Thanks again,

I've done a bit of looking up regarding your help and I'm now assuming that you think that this could be a 'mechanical fault'?

Sorry if this is not the case!

If it is and it is still not possible for me to rectify the fault would it be possible for me to use an External USB 2.0 Burner Device, as a last resort?

Or could I replace another component?

Waddy

Don't mix up DRIVE with DRIVER nor FIRMWARE.
