Thanks for the information. I already suspected this drive to have a Mediatek chipset but there was no way for me to prove it.

I hope Codeking is able to adapt his tool to support this drive's flash chip. I doubt I can make Binflash work with this drive without a complete rewrite.

• No, PumaUK...nope, LtnRPC v1.0 says: "Fail to switch RPC work!" while trying that.

• With pleasure Liggy, keep up your great work ;) In addition, I see so all slimline drives:
Optiarc AD-7530B / Optiarc AD-7530A / Philips SDVD8821(H) / Quanta Storage QSI SDW-086 uses same design at hardware-level,
there is (except drive label mark) only specific laptop firmware vendor / version difference:

EH31 - Compaq > (Optiarc AD-7530A)
EH50 - Compaq > (Philips SDVD8821H)
EX31 - Acer, BenQ > (Optiarc AD-7530A & Philips SDVD8821)
EX02 / EX04 / EY01 - Acer > (Philips SDVD8821)
EX32 - Gateway > (Optiarc AD-7530A)
NX02 - Packard Bell, Compal, MSI > (Optiarc AD-7530B)
ES71 / ES72 - Sony > (Quanta Storage QSI SDW-086)

(Practically, F/W naming used here describes drive IDE Setting: MASTER / SLAVE / Invert CSEL and also "real"-present drive name / model of respective OEM or Laptop vendor)

To Firmware patchers:
 here you can download at yet latest stock firmware update for Quanta Storage QSI SDW-086: Version ES72

Edit: Added also firmware update for Philips SDVD8821: Version EX31

I hope so, we will wait what C0deking think about it...

Just another QSI drive. The EX31 firmware lists these drive IDs:
Code:
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A
SONY    DVD RW AW-G530A
PHILIPS DVD-RAM SDVD8821
NU      DVD-RAM SDW-086
JUMBO   DVD-RAM SDW-086

Yup, but with relatively "solid" Chipset to mobile drive isn't it?
There is (probably firmware related) problem for example with Imation CD-RW |4x-12x| disc.
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530B Drive (with firmware NX02) identify this disc as: "Unknown (code 97m17s01f) (97m17s01f)" & after writing - disc is backward unreadable.
(so there is possible firmware writing strategy "failure" for an "unknown" media)

List of allowed writing / reading speeds with (known to firmware) supported media:
• 8X Speed DVD+R Writing
• 8X Speed DVD+RW Writing
• 4X Speed DVD+R DL Writing
• 8X Speed DVD-R Writing
• 6X Speed DVD-RW Writing
• 4X Speed DVD-R DL Writing
• 5X Speed DVD-RAM Writing
• 24X Speed CD-R Writing
• 24X Speed CD-RW Writing
• 8X Speed DVD-ROM Reading
• 24X Speed CD-ROM Reading

Status 8001 usually indicates that it's not a LiteOn/Mediatek firmware (it doesn't follow the basic rules for reading and writing the flash). Sorry, there's nothing I can do to correct this at this time.

Hey C0deKing, Thank you for fast reply

...Sorry I forgot to mentioned - if Flash chip type will help you and this can change something, here is:
16M-bit (2MB) Serial Flash Memory Winbond 25P16VSIG
(Uniform 64KB Sectors/8192 Pages of 256B/page Structure, 8-pin SOIC 208mil., 3.0/3.3Volt,
Fully compatible with NexFlash NX25P16 Serial Flash)
 Datasheet is downloadable: here or here

So, this is complete hardware summary of this "extraordinary" Optiarc drive:
• Drive Model: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530B (also known from PCB as Quanta Storage QSI SDW-086N ver.E)
• Firmware Version: NX02 (Feb27,2007)
• Chipset: MediaTek MT1888E
• Cache: 16M-bit (2MB) low power DRAM Memory EtronTech EM636165TS
• Flash Memory: 16M-bit (2MB) Serial Flash Memory Winbond 25P16VSIG
• Manufacturer: Sony NEC Optiarc Inc. JAPAN (Made In China)
• Manufactured Date: November/07/2007
• Interface: IDE/ATAPI ("slimline" CD/DVD 50-pin connector)

Hope this help you all. That would be great if you will be able to add support for this at yet relatively nameless,
but interesting slimline drive into your flash / firmware utilities.
Please, feel free contact me if you need any assistance / testing or feedback...

Best Wishes & Thanks

Hi,

It's surprising because the reference of my DVD matches with the SDVD8821H !
Do you know where I could find the good firmware ?

Thanks.

Delphine

Hi Delphine,
Have You tried firmware backup at first? (What F/W version is in your drive?)
I have uploaded this firmware update here mainly for Firmware Patchers (to take a look on it).

If your computer is notebook - be careful with any firmware updates,
since for instance EX31 means here not only F/W version, but also drive IDE setting / "orientation" (MASTER / SLAVE / Invert CSEL)
and there is absolutely no warranty that this update will fix your drive reading problems...

Anyway, please try to make backup of your original firmware (if it's works):
codeguys flashing utilities

Hi Dumax,

Thanks for you reply.
I'm newby in hardware forums and I don't know what make a backup of my original firmware means...
If I download the codeguys flashing utility, what am I supposed to do with it? What is the way to use it ? In which ways will it solve my reading problems ?

Has anyone encountered the same reading problems ?

Thanks for your help.

Delphine

Hello. I am a chicken to this. I just purchased a Optiarc AD-7530B 8x online because the TEAC DW-224E-AT4 dvd-rom on my old toshiba A45-S121 fails. But when I plug in the Optiarc, the screen shows IDE#1 error before the windows loads. Can anyone tell me what to do? By the way, my computer crashes and it turns blue everytime after the windwos bar loaded. On the screen it says: stop 0x0000008E and win32k.sys, then it sarts to dump the physical memory. I searched some forums but all they say that this is a software problem that the only way to solve is format the harddrive. Can anyone please help? I really appreciate any response :(

IDE#1 error means the drive's firmware or the setup is not suitable in this combination...
What Laptop do you have and which firmware is on the drive?

Toshiba laptops usually require the drive set to "inverse cable select" or (probably, but not tested so far) slave. Most drives are delivered with either "Cable Select" or "Master". While there are ways to change the IDE mode of most Optiarc drives, I'm not sure about QSI OEM drives like the AD-7530. You might try to contact Optiarc's technical support through their Website but they will probably tell you to contact the OEM that drive was made for, which probably is not Toshiba.
