Hi,

I have 5yrs old WD Raptor, WD360GD-00FLC0, 36GB, 10 000RPM.... Few months before I took it out of my PC and then put it right back. Since then, HDD can no longer be recognized by BIOS or any software/hardware. I suspect a firmware problem because HDD spins-up normally and stays spinned on full speed.

I wonder, is there any FREE firmware extraction and installation software for WD drives. I googled it and I lost about 3hrs of searching for nothing. Any help is welcome. Sorry for my bad english.

...thanks in advance.
Greetings from Croatia.

I doubt its a firmware problem.

You should exchange the pcb platine and then try again.

done well on 5 years with a raptor, as we know here at rpc1. Hook it up to an external case via usb and make sure it operates and show's up. If it does, then its a bios issue or connection.

It is definitely a firmware problem because all simptoms are indicating that. It is almost impossible to find another PCB board. Actually, I had 2 Raptors , exactly the same when lookin' them, but another one has M/N : WD360GD- 01ALC1 (which is incompatible with mine, problematic Raptor - > WD360GD-00FLC0). Any suggestions for installing a healthy firmware?

Which symptoms make you think that it's a firmware problem? If I understood you correctly, the drive used to work with the same firmware in the same PC before. So why should it be a firmware issue if the drive stops working?

Like I said, that makes no sense to be a firmware problem...
