Hi,
I've got some old laptops that work fine lying around, and the batteries work good too.
I want to throw a DVD-ROM reader drive originally from an HP Omnibook 550 (I think) into an older compaq 1750 armada which has the max ram and CPU (256+64/650mhz P3)
This one says Ver 900 and ROM 1911 It's stamped CSEL and the original Toshiba drive from the compaq is stamped M/S
I tried shorting pin 47 to 45 internally, as documented on a german language webpage. This didn't do anything.
When the newer CSEL drive is inserted in the bay, the main hard drive can't be seen.
With it out, or with the original M/S drive, it works normally.
The connector from the drive to the bay has pins 50, 49, 48 and 47 not connected to anything on the bay-side. I don't know if this matters.
feedback?

if you have an external adapter you can connect the drive to a desktop go into bios and find out what it is being set to on the master end of an ide cable if it is slave then the drive is reverse cable select.
cant say for sure but in my case with 632h certain hardware revisions i have to pull a pin out to force it to master rather than jumping it. i believe it was 47. second one from the left on the top row. you can check my post for ts-l632h.
