Was wondering if anyone could help me with getting the latest firmware for this Prolific PL-3507 IDE to USB2/Firewire bridge used on my external hd enclosure. I'm hoping that the firmware may fix some problems I'm having with it. I found a link on the web(http://www.linux1394.org/view_device.php?id=689) which mentioned that the firmware could be upgraded by going to the manufacturer web site(http://tech.prolific.com.tw/) and downloading it from there but I the firmware doesn't seem to be there anymore.

If anyone has a copy or know where to get a copy of the latest firmware for this bridge chip, would love to know. Thanks

Thanks for the link! :-)

My USB2/Firewire box has Prolific PL-3507 controller chip too. How do you know/find out the firmware of the unit?

Cheers

Thanks for the link...I've already tried that one and tried the firmware update from there, but when I try and run the updater, it says that the chip is not found/chip rejected. My guess is that my chip is a different revision to the one on the argosy enclosures(I think there's different firmware of Revision A chips, and another one for Revision B onwards). not really sure which revision mine is, will have to open up and see.

So, still stuck....

mine says:

PL-3507
03395A

So....and I'm guessing here.. the Argosy ones must use the higher revision chips..

still looking for the ones that work for my enclosure

Oh damn, I saw this firmware file once on the prolific page before it disappeared, and now I am having the same trouble. If you find the file somewhere, post it here!

Cheers, Chris.

Does anyone have the latest firmware for this Prolific PL-3507 IDE to USB2/Firewire bridge? Im running MacOSX and am experiencing the dreaded firewire corruption issue. I have tried emailing them but so far no reply. Does any other external drive manufacturere use this chip? If so have they got a firmware patch which will work?

I just got a Plumax combo enclosure from Dealsonic,

http://www.dealsonic.com/plpmcousb20f.html

I noticed a "copying corruption" error every time I copy large files between the native hard drive and the external one.

I tested it using a 250MB rar file so I can check the integrity of the file by checking CRC. There's never a problem with USB 1.1 (I don't have 2.0). And I tried several different firewire cables from brand name to generic ones the problem still exists. So I know it is either the chipset's problem or the windows driver. From all the previous posts, I think I probably need a patch on the Prolific's firmware.

Open up the box and the chipset reads: "PL-3507, 03513C"

Any ideas? Thanks

After yesterday's post. I found this and tested my hard drive on this PL-3507 chipset. It failed every time at random places. So I think it's possible that the large file copy corruption issue is due to this "delayed write failures" with many firewire external drives.

The HD360C patch worked successfully on my chipset (03513C), but the copy corruption issue is still there after this patch. And the drive still failed the "delayed write failures" tests.

You can have a lot more detailed information here:

http://www.bustrace.com/products/delayedwrite.htm

I haven't got a solution yet.

I just dissembled the HD360C update file using i6comp. There are two files relevant.

The first is ROMWriter2.1.3 RS32.exe, after looking at the version description of the file, I think it is specifically designed to flash PL-3507 chips.

The other is pl3507-0204-0813.hex, I think this is the "real" firmware, the file was modified 2004/02/18.

But this patch still doesn't solve my problem of copy corruption on firewire connections.

Just picked up another USB2/firewire box- a plastic one with the removable side cheeks ...
http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog ... ernal2.gif

Chipset/version...
PL-3507
3351C

Any idea of a general Proligic firmware utilty that covers all versions of the 3507 chipset?

OK Guys & Girls,

Just received and installed last night. Corrected all my problems completely with Firewire on WinXP/Pro SP2 and a LiteOn 832S in a Plumax Case.

The original firmware load from Argosy (hde360c) is version :( 03.10.29.001 :( .

The firmware I received from the emagic manufacturer late last night is version  04.04.22.009  with a late April 2004 date. Like I said this one fixed ALL my Firewire problems. The hde360c is alot older and only corrected about half of my issues.

If anyone would like a copy please send me a EMail at beach-hobo@earthlink.net.

Regards,

Hi Mr. Hobo,

I also have an external enclosure with the PL-3507 chipset. PL-3507 03433C.

The question I have is if you think this firmware change to have a positive effect on getting this thing to be recognized in DOS? The USB works fine in DOS but the firewire won't initialize. In XP the firewire blows the USB 2.0 right out of the water for transfer speed. So I want to check it out in DOS now for backups.

Are you aware of a driver that works with the firewire on this chip in DOS? I haven't found one that works yet.

How did you find what f/w version the unit has? Have you got a utility?

Pretty sure there is no sticker on the firmware chip, and that really isn't enough to go by anyway.

I had to peel a QC sticker off my chip to uncover the numbers.

OOPS, I should change my name to Bob Dumbass nathane. I misread your message and gave an answer that was stupid. You are looking for the firmware revision number and not the chip number.

Sorry about that guy...

Thanks for that Bob (got the file). I haven't flashed the two boxes, but I've used the util to check the existing firmware. As soon as it completes the check "Read Rom" button, the util quits!

But here's the info I got before it does so..

DVD ROM drive FW ver. 03.06.19.241
ROM Size 1691955?????

[edit] just done it, seemed to go OK (erasing) then uploading new f/w, then on ROM verification it failed. However the unit is not dead, but it's reported
03.06.19.241. So lucky it didn't die. phew

Here's the contents of the readme file..

I have a new firmware of pl3507

I use external combo HD case and My hd data had gone three time!!!

fu*k !! It was 120GB * 3 = 360GB only connected via 1394

So I was very tired with HD case and I'd like to sell it for lower price

to other man (I'm bad sucker!!) But I find out some more web site in google type pl3507 , then I found a new firmware on Japan community

So I had downloaded newest firmware (pl3507-0422.hex) in my computer

and I also flashed my ext hd case , there was some changes
1st more faster (transfer rate)then past firmware
(I don't know what was past versio)

2nd more faster remove device (undocking) (it's miracle!!)

If u need firmware flash util + 0422 firmware !! send me a mail rightnow!!
I'll send immediately !! , or soon or later If have any more web server or
FTP , I will be bulletin it , sorry my poor English~~ hehe~~ :D

Have fun~~~

ps. my email address is comwiz@empal.com

I run an ME-320U2F external enclosure containing the Prolific PL3507.
USB1 is functionally OK (but sooo slow), but a Firewire connection gave all sorts of problems like mentioned by others in this forum.
I've tried both the firmware 03.10.29.001 as well as the quite recent 04.04.22.009 as mentioned and provided to me by beach_hobo, but unfortunately neither one fixed all problems.
04.04.22.009 makes things better but it's still far away from being acceptable for normal use.

This is on a Windows XP prof system, with SP1 and KB822603.
When setting the drive to "optimize for performance" instead of "optimize for quick removal" in the hardware/device manager, it only takes a 1Gbyte file to be dragged and dropped in the external disk folder and within 1 minute into the copy the device stops (no more blinking LED on the drive) and after a while the drive letter disappears from the explorer window, and the "safely remove hardware" icon is gone as well.

Any tips to solve these problems are very welcome.

How are people flashing these units? Are you disconnecting the devices within the box then flashing? Or flashing it with a device connected? (ie HD/DVD etc)

The ICP AP v2.0.4 is the rom writer or flasher program. The flasher/reader works when the enclosure is connected via USB and does not work when connected via firewire. I have a hard drive in my enclosure at this time. The updated flash worked fine without disconnecting anything. Remember to connect via USB to do your flash or the flasher/reader program will give no results.

FWIW I moved some .vob files around without a hitch on both usb and IEEE1394 and we all know they average a gig a chunk.

It also seemed to work just a tad better if I hard jumper selected master for the hard drive even though on a WD drive with no jumpers is a master or single drive. YMMV

My results last night using Hard drive tach 2.70 came out like this:

(all numbers are rounded off).

USB Read Speed Max 18mb/s, Min 13, Average 15 / CPU usage 35%

IEEE1394 Read speed max 35mb/s, min 21, average 28 / CPU 17%

You may notice that the firewire seems pretty near twice as fast with half the cpu strain. There are no typos here.

I'm running a Abit NF7s v2.0 mainboard with windows XP pro.
