Did you get this problem resolved? I have the exact problem with my sony dw-q58a drive. I stopped it in the middle of burning a cd and it will not read any of my burnt cds or blank cds but will read movies.

Hi All: I just joined the "Broken Sony" club. Last night I burned and viewed a movie and when I tried to load a new game (on CD ROM), my drive couldn't read the CD. The last time I used it, it worked fine. I also tried another new game disk and a music CD. Same results. Tried all the tests and analyses and the DVD/CD drive is supposed to be A-Okay. I'm stumped. Any new developments out there? I may just break down and buy an external burner. Just another piece of junk to carry around (I travel a lot). I'll watch the forum to see if anyone comes up with a solution. I'll be home in a week (nice to break down 3000 miles from home) and then I'll decide what to do. Thanks for the opportunity to vent on the issue.
P.S. Just had a thought! Could XP SP3 be the problem??? If my memory serves me correctly, the last time I read/burned CDs was before I loaded SP3.

Thanks for the suggestion Chef, but the problem persists even in safe mode. I'll just load through my wireless network. I've done that before. It stinks I won't be able to use the drive for CDs when I'm on the road away from my network. I'll be in touch with Sony regarding the problem and if they have a solution (other than buying a new drive), I'll post it on this forum. Thanks again for trying.....
