I have the same problem. I use prolific's flash utility 2.3 and flash fail. Now, my enclosure is not detected anymore (USB or Firewire).

When I try to reflash it I have a message : "can't find or connect to the device".

On this topic, others guys have the same issue and nobody to help. The flash chip is pm39lv512.

I search for a flash tool (or howto) to restore the firmware when an USB device is not detected by the system.

Thank

http://www.prolific.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=44

says

"Use ICP v2.0.4 and firmware 09/22/2004 first if your current firmware is older than 04/10/2003."

Yes and ?..

When I connect through USB my enclosure is not detected, flash utility need autodetection. How to reflash firmware without this autodetection ? Maybe with another flash tool ?

same problem here... i've got two Iceberg enclosures armed with pl-3507 (250 and 320gb), no problem at all with both usb and fw400 on some power-pc macs,
a lot of troubles when i switched to intel (macbook, mac pro, some hackintosh)... finder crashing everytime... on a mac-related forum i got the tip to upgrade the firmware from the download page at prolific site.
i did it on a real pc (not on my macs using bootcamp or vmware) but the update failed and i'm no more able to use every version of romwriter. There is a workaround to fix it? Or i just can trash the enclosure? thanks in advance...

Same here too...

I looked for different ways to reflash it, and i'm quite sure the ONLY possibility is to reflash in-situ the PLCC chip.

I managed to unsolder it, and I plan to solder another PLCC, flashed using a technique described at :

http://sandeen.net/fwfix/index.html

But but.... I NEED an whole dump of the flash ROM, a .bin file and not a .hex provided by Prolific.
The reason is the hex files instruct the flashing software to partially flash the necessary addresses. So we can't use the .hex to totally rebuild the firmware.

Is there a kind donator here who could dump his firmware using the Prolific software :

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CO21LM6V ("READ ROM" function)

..and send the precious dump to me ?

Thanks in advance, have a nice day everyone

I know a way to rescue your units, all Prolific PL3507 owners..

All I need is a binary dump, using the utility from Prolific, "Read ROM" function. No matter your version is, A, B or C are suitable for my needs.

Please one.... Take 1 minute of your time and send me a link to your dumped EEPROM

Hello Cage!

Congrats, you really make my day =D> =D>

I had to wait many days to get this, but You are the man!

I managed to reflash a spare PLCC chip I (painfully) resoldered on the enclosure's board..

Here's the ATMEL chip I use :

The setup :

And after some tests, the proof this method works!

So, owners of dead Prolific PL-3507 bridge chip based enclosures, you can revive them!

Many, many thanks again Cage_, for the precious time you spent.

Have a nice day, and greetings from France!
