would imagine this mean's the utility doesn't support the drive. as its not a Renesas chipset

I went and checked the EL01 update for your drive and the headers are the same that my code looks for. So your drive is supported.

Only thing I can think of that might be the problem is that maybe your tried to flash your drive with out rebooting and then tried dumping it.
or maybe there is something up with the controller card of yours.

If you think its none of the above you will have to explain why and not just say its not.

also please post DiscInfo of your drive.

If we don't figure out a way to get it working with just that then I will make a special build designed to dump the entire memory of your drive to a file and I will have you upload it so I can see what it is sending back to the program and what is up.

Hi,

Quote:
1) Download the LG Windows Flasher. <---- It means "gh22np20_2.00.exe" is LG Wndows Flasher?
2) Patch the LG Windows Flasher. <------ How to patch it?
3) Extract the Firmware from the flasher. the EXE must be in the same directory as the flasher program of mine. <--- It means -r to extract the firmware?
4) Dump the main and the core firmware from your drive.
5) Flash the patched firmware to the drive. there might be a core and a main one also.
6) Totally turn off your computer and then turn it back on.

I have tried in Windows XP and got failed messages as following.

D:\GH22NP20>flasher -r gh22np20_2.00.exe
Devilsclaw's LG Renesas Drive Utility
cmd_ripexe: Starting firmware ripping process
firm_ripexe: Unknown encryption type
cmd_ripexe: Failed firmware ripping process

D:\GH22NP20>

Anyone can help?

GH22NP/LP20 drives have a Panasonic chipset, so you can't use the Renesas Flasher utility with these drives.
Use ala42's MCSE instead and follow steps 2-6 from your post. Those steps will become obvious once you load the firmware up in MCSE and read the messages given by the program.

I added a list of known support and not supported drives. the list is probably no complete but it took a while to create what is there. I might update it more a little later.

Hi,

I have a Lenovo T400 with a "Serial Ultrabay Slim DVD Burner" (Lenovo "alik701") running Win7 x86.

I searched and read quite a lot and found that the best way to patch my drive is to apply the rpc2 auto reset fix (with MCSE).
Now, I tried finding on the web the appropriate firmware. I didn't find it. The ones I tried do not recognize my drive when trying to patch (GSA-U10N isn't the same model...)

So I was left with LG Renesas Firmware Utility.
I managed to dump the Main and the Core successfully but couldn't patch the Main FW.
I got the following error:

Code:
C:\Users\rhaffy\Downloads\flasher>flasher.exe -D
Devilsclaw's LG Renesas Drive Utility
drives_available: Cannot open device h.

AVAILABLE DRIVES AND IDs:
Drive ID: 1 Name: DVDRAM GU10N

C:\Users\rhaffy\Downloads\flasher>flasher.exe -d 1 -f GU10N_main_fw.bin
Devilsclaw's LG Renesas Drive Utility
cmd_drive: Opening Drive: 1.
cmd_flashfirm: Flashing process started

firm_flasher: Drive should be flashing its light.
firm_flasher: This indicates its flashing its self.
firm_flasher: This can take a while, Please be patiant.
firm_flasher: Failed to write at 0x000D8000
firm_flasher: your drive should still be fine.
cmd_flashfirm: Flashing process failed

I've suspended BitLocker, suspended my AV, tried it in safe mode - result is the same.
I tried flashing the exact same Main firmware I dumped.

Information I took out of the Main file:
m045.07.29.02a DVDRAM RU2N2 Copyright (c) 2007,2008,Hitachi-LG Data Storage,Inc.

I see that my post was moved by an admin - fair enough.
I was asking for help with the flasher application, though a firmware package for my model would do nicely :)

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

I must applaud the efforts for the creation of this tool, it works splendidly aside from one small issue I am having.

I have an LG GT20L DVD+DL drive in my laptop, rebadged HP with no retail firmware available for download. I can dump it just fine with flasher both core and main and edit the firmware to remove riplock just fine. But when I go to flash it does the song and dance but errors out as it can't write the firmware and fails. I don't have the exact error message on hand but it spits out an address where it can't begin writing to if it'll help, I can grab a readout if necessary.

I'd be tempted to say the firmware was written to a damn ROM chip but I've never heard of that happening before.

The message reads the same as rhaffy's with a minor diff to the address iirc.

EDIT:

The firmware of the drive untouched (main and core) as well as the patched version I was attempting to flash is attached to this post.

admin:- No MCSE patched firmware should be posted

I really don't know why it won't flash certain drives. the old ones has a soft reset that I removed from the code because it caused problems with some drives but maybe I need to add a flag that turns it on.

I'm currently working on a hooking tool for flashing tools that will work on 32bit and 64bit systems.. the spi tool that used to do it does not work on 64bit.. once I get that done I will be able to fully find out.

Still, I can dump the drive and obtain the firmware which is lightyears beyond where I was before I found your util.

I got what I needed though and thought you'd like feedback on the tool. The drive doesn't even eject while flashing.
