Hi, I'm new to the board I read the faqs pinned but I'm still having problems recognizing which firmware I need. I bought a new pc and it has a "hl-dt-st bddvdrw ch20n" bluray/dvdrw. After much research, I discovered, it is a LG-Hitachi hybrid brand. The problem I'm having is that it is currently locked to reading dvds at 4x , my old lite-on after a flash could read dvds at 12x I tried looking everywhere but I've not seen any "riplock" type firmware for this drive, actually I'm not finding much info about this drive in general (especially the CH20N version). Is this drive a rebadged of another model? If so, what firmware would you recommend I use to unlock my drive reading speed for dvds? Thanks in advance, I sincerely hope someone is able to help me, I've driven myself almost blind trying to find any firmware for this drive

Is that a "GENUINE OEM Dell LG 6X BLU-RAY DVD BURNER MODEL-CH20N DELL P/N 37YN9." ?? "HL-DT-ST" is Hitachi- LG Da Ta STorage. So, G0ldstar were left out.

Hi Chef, Thanks for replying to my plea for help The hl-dt-st bddvdrw ch20n came in my Gateway FX6840 system http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668659.phpWhen I looked it up in device manager, it gave me the "HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CH20N" info. Normally when I try reading a dual layer dvd on my old liteon after speedlock was disabled, it would take approx 15-18 minutes, but when I tried the same dvd on this drive, it takes 36-45 minutes Any suggestions on what drive model I might have and what firmware I might need, I searched everywhere

I took apart the system, hoping to get a peek at the drive itself, here's the model # below on the drive. Hope it helps. LGE-DMCH 10L S20 (b) Ver 1.5A Does this model sound familiar? The link to gateway is the correct one, doesn't tell us much there huh, it's the only link I could find that had technical specs on my system Strange thing is that every site I checked for specs on my system just lists it as "Blu Ray/DVDRW Supermulti" without giving a detailed description of brand of drive/model number which makes it even more frustrating

Just a mini update, I checked the firmware and it's 1.01 (not 1.5 as indicated above). It listed 1.5A on the top of the drive, however when I checked it in Slysoft Clonedvd, the drive info said that the firmware is 1.01 Hope this help leads us in determining what drive I have

News like this makes me wonder what the heck is [*Profanity*] up so badly with the HD DVD-R format that neither Pioneer nor LG can recording to it working right, let alone Toshiba themselves... (short of inside a few laptops).
But it's nice to know that as Blu-Ray grows, people who adopted HD DVD in the beginning will still have the ability to play back their discs, or later copy them onto the more compatible BD-R format
