Frankly I am a bit doubtful that crossflashing though the hardware specs differ quite a bit is foolproof, but pls feel free to prove me wrong. i answered this already, when you asked about crossflashing http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?p=212729#212729your wrong, the specs are the the same, except the 215D does not do DVD-RAM burning, and also the S15J offers labelflash
I see... anyway I am still thinking whether to crossflash to 215 or S15J. Thanks for clearing my doubts.

Ok, I wanna flash my DVR-215BK to a DVR-S15J, is this the correct command line? Since the S15J has no kernal file, just the firmware :
dvrflash -ff [drive letter]: S0014000.118 [kernal file from 215BK] S0414431.118 [S15J firmware file]
Thanks...

Ok, please ignore my above post. I downloaded the wrong file. Followed your advice on page #2 for crossflashing to S15J. ](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

I flashed my 215 to the S15J using posted firmware, however the Label Flash doesn't work, programs just crash out with Label Flash discs or keep asking for a Label Flash disc.

I crossflash a 212D to a 212 using:
dvrflash -ff [drive letter]: S0013000.122 S0013001.124
All works fine now I have a Pioneer DVR 212 but it's still RCP2. Do I something wrong?
Another question, can I update future firmwares now with 212 firm downloaded from Pionner web?
Thank you for help me.

You flashed the original firmware. If you need a RPC1 patch, patch the firmware with MCSE. Quote: Another question, can I update future firmwares now with 212 firm downloaded from Pionner web?
Yes.

Quote: I tried to fix my old DVR111 to a DVR 115 - but I can´t. DVRflash always writes - FILE SIZE MISMATCH which is correct, and stops you destroying your drive, from a misflash, as liggy has posted this is not possible

Sorry that I asked - but what was the topic about - Pioneer Firmware/Kernel Files (111>115,212>215) - I suggested it meant that a new kernel would turn a 111 >115.... Seems that I missed... Thanxs for your time! Enloightend Magic

I have two DVR-215D drives (currently 1.18 RPC-1 by MCSE), and want to flash them to DVR-215L (DVR-S15J). Do I need to flash them to DVR-215 first? When I input ./DVRFlash -vff B:PIONEER S0414430.114 S0414431.118, it asked me if I agree...gives me a hardware warning...continues because of superforce...asks to remove media...then (after a really long while) goes back to the prompt. After I reboot, the drive still shows as a DVR-215D. Am I missing something?
$ ./DVRFlash -vff B:PIONEER S0414430.114 S0414431.118

THANKS PUMA! Everything seems to be going great! Yes, I have a mac. I have another question. One of the main problems I am trying to bypass with the upgrade is to resolve the issue of OSX not recognizing one of the drives after using it, and then using the other one. I've found that for some reason it is an issue when you have 2 of the DVR-215D. You know if it will? Maybe I should leave one DVR-215D, and the other DVR215L.

Thanks again puma! Your support on this forum is OUTSTANDING! Upgrade (MCSE) on both drives went without a hitch! Upgrading the drives DID resolve the problem! YEA!!! Thanks again for all your support!!! Does this forum have an irc channel, and are you usually in it? I looked, and couldn't tell. As a side note: anyone that may be wondering what the "enable bitsetting" option in MCSE is for, please see this article (it's an easy read).

I spoke to soon. It looks like using 2 DVR-215D or DVR-215L will result with the same trouble in OS X. Using both drives will cause OS X to stop recognizing them until you reboot. Hopefully Pioneer will fix this issue with their next firmware update. I called them about 1.18 for the DVR-215D, but they have no ticket system, and said that they don't support their product being used with Mac. I told them that they should...really, how stupid is that!
