I recently purchased a DVR-116D, and I have successfully crossflashed it to a DVR-A16 (so it shows up as a DVR-116 (no D) in Windows) with the files in this thread, but I was wondering if anyone had available the kernel/firmware combination for the A16J. I'd really like to add LabelFlash functionality.

Thanks in advance!

This is basic but I'm as far as I can go without help.
I have a 115D with upgraded from v1.12 to 1.18 by the Pioneer installer (DVR115D_FW118EU2).
I don't know if the "EU" causes a PAL/NTSC conflict? I'm in the U.S.?
I want to use MCSE/DVRFlash programs to crossflash to a A15J for bitsetting.
The above firmware packages contain 2 components:
115D: A0814000.113 (128k), A0814000.118 (1920k)
A15J: A0414430.118 (128k), A0414431.118 (1920K)
Which is kernal, which is firmware?
To use MCSE first to get RPC-1, which file would I load/save?
To then crossflash with DVRFlash I don't know which first file to use?
dvrflash.exe -ff D: xxxx.xxx A0414431.118. I think the second file is correct?
Why do the installer programs only use one file? Would one ever have to use both files?
Which order? kernal first, fw second??
I put the DVRFlash.exe and files in the same folder? Does it have to be root?
thanks

the kernel file is the smaller in size, 128k, you need to load the firmware which is A0414431, the larger file into mcse and patch it too rpc1, remember to rename it or save it as the original, then you can input the command line you posted with the kernel filename (space) firmware file, and follow the on screen prompts, answering yes

thanks for the reply. Just to be sure, I would do the following;
1. MCSE: patch the A15J fw A0414431.118 to RPC1 and perhaps rename, ex: AP0414431.118 add the "P" for "patched". Does the rename have to be the same quantity of characters? Does it have to end in ".118"?
2. DVR cross flash the 115D kernel to the new AP0414431.118
dvrflash.exe -ff D: A0814000.113 AP0414431.118?
thanks again for your help

no, you must have the same filename as the original when flashing, no P, just as it was

Sorry, when you said

I thought renaming was OK but I'll use the original name.
One more question: Can I follow the above instructions if I want to cross flash my DVR115D to a DVR115, using the DVR115 fw? I don't know what RAM writing is so it's a moot point just for my education.
thanks

its your choice, just easier to keep it as the original name, yes the command line is the same for crossflashing, just the file names will be different

Only when you want to flash a patched firmware with the original flasher it is important to use the original filename. When you use DVRFlash to flash you can use any filename you like.

yup i know, just with the member, not knowing what he is doing, easier to keep it as simple as possible

Hi guys, I need some help with enabling bitsetting on my DVR 215D

I already successfully crossflashed it to 215L (and 215), but every time I go check in Nero (With Discspeed) or IMGburn, it always sets the booktype for my DVD+R DL to DVD+R DL, instead of DVD-Rom.

I even tried to patch the firmware with MCSE, but it's always the same. :(

I am on Vista X64 Ultimate, but I don't really think it does matters cause flashing is always successful...

PS: Hope it's understandable... i'm Italian.

DVD+R DL is done automatically, have you actually burnt something before looking in these programs, also make sure your not looking a disc type setting, in nero you need to change the setting in options to booktype

I still haven't tried to burn a dual layer "+", they're a little expensive, so I just want to be sure before burning an unreadable disc.

In Nero DiscSpeed there's "bitsetting", but I can't choose anything, it's all grayed out.

This is what I see when I insert a DVD+R DL:

So... you say that I should try to burn my disc anyway?

As Puma told you, DVD+R DL is automatically bitset to DVD-ROm with any firmware you can get for your 215...
When flashed to *L, its also done for DVD+R the same way, you cannot "interfere" that process.

Only the *L from Buffalo have +R bitset. For Pioneer *L you have to apply the MCSE bitset patch to get automatic bitsetting.

yes, you will not see DVD-ROM booktype without having actual data on the disc

All/Puma,

First of all, I apologize in advance if the question is stupid, but I want to make sure I don't brick any of my burners...
I currently have two Pioneer burners: DVR-115 and DVR-116.
I would like to make them both RPC-1 and get as many features as I possibly can.

Basically, my questions are:

1) Is DVR115 the most complete/best firmware (it says adds DVDRam Burning+A15J - and A15J says Labelflash+Bitsetting) to have all features?
2) Are DVRA15J.zip and DVR115.zip also RPC1 or I need to go through MCSE before with any of them?
3) What do I get by flashing my DVR116 with the DVRA16_106.zip firmware?

THANKS in advance. Regards !!

the A15J Will be the complete firmware you require, you will need to use mcse to patch rpc1 and readspeed. On the A16 over 116, there are no real added features, with the firmware side, the pioneer utility will give you optimal writing speed for dvd+/-r media

@ supertommy,

Welcome to the Forum.

Perchance have you reviewed the postings in this thread?

If so you would have noted that Forum Administrator Puma in posting Tue Sep 16, 2008 9:54 AM informed Forum Members that A16J Kernel/Firmware files were not available.

Regards,
Coaster
