Hi there folks,

Might seem a newbie's question (I'm not apologising in advance though) but I flashed my Pioneer DVR-111D (OEM) to 8.29 (from http://tdb.rpc1.org/#DVR111L) and still can't burn any of the blank DVDs I bought (Intenso DVD-R 4.7Gb 16X - cakebox 50) at a speed over 4X. I know there a tool somewhere to Add/Edit this reference into my burner but I don't remeber where/what to use and how to use it. So if someone has done it please send me the updated firmware (and a link to the tool to flash it too if necessary). BTW, I don't have another DVD-rom to read the media's data so I really need your help.

Thanks,

Aglae, the old stinking french fart

BTW, I almost forgot, apart from flashing with 8.29 is there anything else to do, because I tend (even at 4X) to not be able to write those DVDs I mentionned (it craches before the end). I know my system is old but still, I hate having half of my kids pictures/video burnt and having to go through all of them to find out which I have to re-burn.

Thanks again

First, make sure it runs on an 80 wire IDE cable in UDMA4 mode!
Then, please use dvd.identifier and post the mediacode/MID here.

Intenso uses all kinds of media from many manfacturers.........

PS: Cut the cheese. :D

I know it will not help you, but in order to prevent problems, I don't suggest using Princo, SK, SKY or Intenso media. :-&

Better buy quality media next time.

Sorry about that

Only 4x supported with your Pioneer, as suspected.
It is only about the media. Next time just buy better media like Verbatim.

@ aglae,

Unfortunately the Intenso (OPTODISCR016) Media you are using is very poor quality Media.

There is a very good reason why DVR-111L v8.29 Firmware will not support Burning Intenso (OPTODISCR016) faster than 4x speed even though the rated speed of Media is supposed to be 16x speed. Both Pioneer/Buffalo are fully aware that Intenso (OPTODISCR016) is very poor quality Media and to prevent total Burning failure limited Firmware maximum Burning speed to 4x speed.

Attempting to use MediaCodeSpeedEdit (MCSE) to patch Firmware to increase the maxium Burning speed of your Intenso (OPTODISCR016) Media will only cause increased additional problems. The bottom line is that Intenso (OPTODISCR016) Media is very poor quality Media and Firmware patching trickery will not be able to magically convert very poor quality Media to faster Burning Media.

Strongly suggest that if you value the data you have Burned to Intenso (OPTODISCR016) Media that you purchase known proven quality such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim Media that consistently provides quality error free results and then re-Burn the data Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim Media. The data Burned to Intenso (OPTODISCR016) Media over time will most likely fail to be accessible.

Regards,
Coaster
