Please try with VLC videolanclient. Netflix/Blockbuster discs are a special creepy case sometimes.
Have you really patched and then flashed this patched firmware to the drive successfully? Was is the rpc2 auto-reset patch?

Hii =D

I have some questions about the software =P

I used "flasher.exe" (devilsclaw's software ;)) to dump the firmware of my dvd writer, an HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20N in a toshiba A500-14L (laptop)

I opened main_firmware.bin, as the other one, core_firmware.bin was empty, and I checked RPC2 auto reset and increase read speed =)

and I saved the changes ... but I'd know if there's a risk increasing read speed ? And if it really increases read speed, about how much ?...

Thanks =D

there is always a risk in whatever firmware your flashing. But in theory, there is little chance of any damage to your drive. Test it out.

The riplock will be removed, so reading starts at 3.4x up to 8x at the outer part of the disk. Usually you get 2x-5x when riplock is active.

Feedback ? So does it really increase read speed ? Have you felt that ? =D

yes it increases the read speed, as i said it's been tested, so try it.

much, not much ... ? =P

But I meant, it's not like overclocking isn't it ? The dvd writer would just read at its highest speed right ? so it wouldn't be restrained ? I don't know if you understood what I meant =(

it removes the riplock, which allows the drive, to read at its maximum. Its not really overclocking, because the drive can without issue perform at the max read speed.

Thanks, so it's safe, no risk the drive crash while reading a drive lol

I'll test =D So, using flasher.exe of course, I flash only the main_firmware.bin (the patched bin with MCSE where I checked Auto RPC2 reset and increase read speed) right ? As the core_firmware.bin seems empty when I open it with MCSE ...

ps : if you could explain to me also what is RPC2 Auto reset ... =)

the core is not needed to be used with MCSE. read the FAQ. That explains what the difference is between autoreset and RPC1

Would it be possible to add support for the above drive used in a Dell laptop. Looking specifically for the riplock removal feature. The firmware version is D800. I am attaching the file.

What makes you think there is a riplock ? Post cdspeed scans of a DVD data and DVD video disk.

Hi everyone and thank you for the very nice job...

(First, I apologize for my english...)

I've got a Samsung SH-S222A with the SB02 firmware and with MCSE 1.2.0.7, when I load "SH-S222A_SB02.bin" provided as firmware data, the RPC-1 patch stays grayed... It is the same if I load the old SB00 firmware that is claimed to be supported for this drive.

So I would like to know if it is possible to region-free this drive (whatever firmware version is in use)?

(Also, my OS is Windows 7 Pro 64bits ed.)

If needed, here is a link to get the SB02 firmware file (attachement is more than 2.00MB) > http://www.firmwarehq.com/download_1488-file_SH-S222A_SB02.exe.html.

If nothing is possible with this drive, I would understand. It is not a bad CD/DVD burner after all

Regards,
Johan

Nope, you probably had 1 change left before locking, and now used rpc2 auto reset???

Not really. You used an RPC1 patch, and need some software to handle the region changes now, like DVD Region Killer.

This post is to document a defective firmware patch of the LG GS20N A110 firmware.

MediaCodeSpeedEdit V1.2.0.8

After LG GS20N A110 firmware is patched with MediaCodeSpeedEdit V1.2.0.8 to increase read speed (antiriplock) and the firmware is flashed to the LG GS20N drive, the drive no longer reads all CD-type and DVD-type media that is readable firmware without the MediaCodeSpeedEdit V1.2.0.8 antiriplock patch. With the MediaCodeSpeedEdit V1.2.0.8 antiriplock patch, some media is readable while others are not.

Additional Notes:

The reading of CD and DVD type media has been tested with both burned and pressed media.

The patched firmware flashes tested had always included the The RPC2 Auto reset patch.

The RPC2 Auto reset patch seems OK.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6z-1100 running Windows XP Pro. SP 3. Where can I find updated firmware for my LG GT20L optical drive...? When I inserted my Animusic 2 Dual Layer DVD under a fully updated Windows 7 x64 Home Premium Install with VLC 1.0.5 it fails to even recognize my DVD; let alone actually play it... Strangely enough the Animusic Special Edition DVD plays fine though without any issues whatsoever.

Any advice...?
