I am trying to set the bitsetting property on my LG GSA-4160B and it gives an error. From what I am reading on here it should work no?
C:\bitsetting>set_dvdrom.bat
C:\bitsetting>bitset dvd-rom dvd-rom
Looking for drives...
Drive 1:0:0: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B A302 bitsetting may be supported
(LG) reading current setting:
command failed
(LG) reading current setting failed
C:\bitsetting>pause
Press any key to continue . . .

Has anyone tried doing the 4120 to 4160 patch on a real 4160 to see if that works yet?

The "patch" is for real 4120 only.

Probably won't hear anything new until a new firmware is released by LG.

Sell your 4160B and get a 4120B instead.

Ok.. bad one, sorry...
What does, the 4160?
I just burned a dual layer DVD+R9 but when I read the booktype it says DVD-ROM (from Nero) .. Does that mean it's working..? or..?
Thanks.

Ya, that's kinda what I meant.. what's up with the 4163 doing bitsetting for the DVD+R's while there's still no firmware to do it for the 4160..
DL .. nice.. sure.. but I don't want to pay over $15 per disc! Nevermind that there just aren't -any- right now.. (around here..)
Thanks

I speak of CDN $ .. but.. that's not as far off USD as it used to be..
So I pay $45 for 3 DL discs.. before tax (more ick)
That'd be about $41.84 USD, or $13.95 per disc..
And.. about .. 31.54 euro, or 10.51 euro per disc.
All not including tax of course, and all no doubt more if it were single disc..
And always buying online will add a significant chunk to the cost in money and time, and quite possibly hassle.
And the BIG "and".. like I say.. there's none available to be had at any price around here right now..

You tested it Alexnoe? or someone did? I am impress that it works... I will try to buy a DRD+R DL, because it is dificult to find it here in Brazil.

I don't know if alexnoe tested it, but.. as I say.. that's the result I got. (with the 4160) I was surprised..

alexnoe wrote: Amazon doesn't charge anything for shipping when the order exceeds 20 euro here.... so when I order 5 dvd+r dl verbatim for 36 Euro there, I'll pay exactly 36 Euro (those 36 euro include taxes as well as the fee the copyright mafia gets for each disc). Don't you have any *real* shops in canada? It's really weird that blank dvd supply is that bad over there
Ya.. I've been looking for 16x DVD+R Verbatim too.. but.. not sure if they're out yet, or what..
And.. for sure, they tax us comin' and goin' here.. Your pay is taxed, then with the money left over you spend on stuff, the stuff you buy is taxed.. then there's the dang Levy.. yikes..
The availability may be better back east.. Vancouver's really just a little village on the west coast.
Cheers

There is very simple explanation how does the 4160B do bitsetting
for DVD+R DL discs. IT DOESN'T !!!
The 4160B does not change the Booktype of any disc!
I have a blank Verbatim DVD+R DL disc, and when checking its
booktype, I was surpised to see that it is already DVD-ROM... before burning it...
So the only good thing that the 4160B does, is NOT to change the
booktype ...
