1) If I flash to a DB NEC 2500A firmware can I flash back to original?

2) I suppose the RC1 with unlock would be best? I'm mainly concerned with unlocking the speed, but want the flash that works best.

3) And thirdly and most importantly, if I had to flash back to original and had to return it, could the retailer or manf. tell I flashed a hacked firmware before? This is a technical question, not an ethics question. 8-)

Yes, you can flash back, that's what the DOS flasher is for. You mean RPC-1, and I would choose the autoreset version over RPC-1 for reasons that you can find easily by searching. I don't know about whether NEC can tell or not. Pioneer has claimed to be able to for the DVR-107D, but I kind of doubt it.

1) Yes you can flash it with whatever you want, whenever.

2) If you don't need or don't understand RPC1, then just use the Rip Lock patch.

3) The computer store would have no clue, NEC might be able to tell but it's very doubtful. It's possible a drive could fail in a way that you couldn't flash it back, or the flash process itself could fail. Flashing, and failures during flashing probably aren't covered under warranty.

If your not sure about doing it, don't do it.
