Someone asked whether the hacked firmware would stop their drive recording at 4x with media that was previously working. For confirmation - my NEC 1300A is still working at 4x with 4x Ritek media. Still not working with Samsung BeAll... but, ah well... I can wait! I do wonder whether I should have got the Sony drive instead though...

@Herrie

The media ID of the red-top Princo's (==datawrite classic) that only verify the first 40%:

00 42 00
00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52
00 02 87 0E 13 87 88 80
00 03 50 52 49 4E 43 4F <- ASCII media brand
00 04 00 00 00 00 00 00 <- media id(1)?
00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 <- media id(2)?
00 06 0B 0F 11 86 67 80
00 07 88 80 00 00 00 00
00 08 01 1B 0B

@All (including Herrie :) )
-Did anyone actually manage to find a direct link from ASCII media brand at $900D5 to the media id(1) at ~$904a7 to the legal/illegal media type table at $9089D to the table with write strategy parameters?
The hacked firmwares i've seen set ALL the illegal bits to legal.
How do you know which one to patch for a specific media????

Got That's Write 4x DVD-R working (Media Code: LEADDATA01)!

Thanks to YoAnn for the help!
Unfortunately support for media code MCC 01RG20 has been removed from the firmware, because it's not known yet how to add media codes. For now we can only replace them!

For the people with media with that ID, you can download it here:
[edit]
Link removed as not necessary anymore ;)
[/edit]

Going to work on support for the other media now!

@All: please provide as much "Media Codes" from working media in order to get non-working media working!

That is exactly the same code of my only 40% working Princo media. Anybody idea how do we get these working?

So the new firmware 105LEADDATA01 is for burning Princo DVD-R with 4x speed, right? Or did i understand something wrong, because i still can only burn my Princos with 2x speed.
A further question: Can you tell my why i always have to change my NEC-1300A to Primary Slave oder Secondary Master / Slave if i want to make a firmware update? Because if i try to flash it on primary master, it always tells me that this is not supportet?!? Hope u can help me!

I just flashed my NEC 1300 with the Firmware which is presented in first posting in this thread. It´s still working ...puh .... but he couldn´t save my original FW, so my first question : Where can i download the original Firmware 1.05? Can somebody save his/her and sent to hag_celine23@gmx.de ?

And i´m happy because now my Princo 4x medias are working ... That´s great. But more as 2x is not possible. But I´m hoping for a better, new and official Firmware from NEC.

Greetings Hagbard

i have tried to read out the Media ID , but no way by now.
Unkown Media by DVDInfo.
ADVDInfo , results in an Aspi Error :?
Nero CD Speed wont show anything.
Bad Day or something ?

My Plus Media is called Platinum 2.4 speed.

I hope this helps , but i think i have to find out the Media ID.

I thought you could only get media ID from + media after they are burned!

What's the prob with these discs? Aren't they working?

can anybody plz confirm whether Datawrite -R 4x (Redtop) work i dont know the true media id cos i havent bought any yet & i cant seem to find any prog to identify my media...i have tried both the progs posted in this forum and Advdinfo gives an aspi error & DVDinfo reboots my pc as soon as its started :(

on a brighter note i have tested & found working 2 types of DVD-rw &DVD+rw

which are:-
Datawrite Greentop DVD-rw (1 speed with data)
Intenso DVD+rw (2.4 speed) :P

i am gonna buy some datawrite 4x Redtop DVD-r on condition i can return if they dont work...will post results.

PS i am still using the original UNHACKED 1.05 firmware

After a tip from YoAnn I started working on support for currently unsupported discs :)

I added a number of media codes (by replacing certain "future media" like RITEKG08 etc).

This needed to be done in a special way and took me quite some time. I think everyone will be pleased with the results!

My LEADDATA01 started to work with this method, so possible others will work too!

Support for the following media codes has been added:

NANYA (@2x)
LEADDATA01 (@4x)
SKC Co Ltd. (@2x)
LONGTEN TECH (@4x)
GSC001 (@2x)
UTJG01001 (@2x)
" " (6 times space) (@4x)
CMC MAG.AF01 (@4x)

Support for the following discs can be added also, but in that case I need to remove support for discs that are currently in the shops (LGE, OPTODISC, LD and TDKG010000d9 could be used for this :)) In case you're interested, drop me a PM with the media code you would like to add and which one to replace and mailaddress, so I can make it for you!
Possibly supported media (only on request)

INFOD K-R (@2x)
DDD (@2x)
PLASMON (@2x)
EURODIG-DISC (@2x)

You can download the new version below:
[edit]
Link removed as newer version fixes bugs :)
[/edit]

All please test and post your results!

Herrie and others

You might want to check out TDK Singapore's website.

When I first purchased the drive (Stock firmware was v1.04) and got a media error, my stomach churned as I read the compatibility posts on this webboard. I was about to implement Herrie's patch when I noticed that my firmware was only v1.04. Updated it from TDK's website and the Verbatim DVD-R 2x media seemed to work.

The TDK DVDRW was recently launched here in Singapore and TDK's website posted a firmware update of v1.06 that seems to be updated on the 29th of May 2003.

I managed to burn a Verbatim DVD-R 2x media with the following media ID successfully. Maybe TDK Singapore has an updated version of the NEC firmware?

If the above is old information, I apologise, but if it's new info, I hope that it proves to be beneficial to some, if not all. :D

Didn't notice that. As I said, if it was old news, I apologise. I was going through some of the old posts and earlier on, it mentioned something about Verbatim DVD-R 2x media not being able to be used in the drive. :?

Yepp, that was me. But my Verbatim dvd-r 2x has a different media code, which wont work, despite Herrie Potter - The Wizard - tremendous efforts. :D
