I posted this as a reply to another topic but it probably deserves it's own thread. Here it is:

Easy to replace 1.32 version with the 1.31, now that the 1.33 version is out...

1) Get the official upgrade
2) Extract it to a subfolder (use Winrar or Winace)
3) Get Gradius' 1.33 2x4all version (v133_a04.zip)
4) Extract just the R4100103.133 file from Gradius' version and overwrite the official one in the subfolder in #2 above
5) Make SURE the official version was overwritten... Check again...
6) Run the upgrade, and the bios will be programmed.

I have not speed tested it but the bios file writes fine (I can do that remotely). I can speed test when I get home.

Oldie

As an added comment... You will probably never be able to use the "official" 1.33 version after this one is applied, not that you would want to anyway.

If this does work, does it mean that we can then flash back to 1.20? :?:

To Loner...

No, it doesn't look like you can go back to the 1.20 version, at least it hasn't worked for me. Probably the only way to do that is with the "hardware trick".

To highstuff...

Yes, it looks like the upgrade file is different for each version, and it must do some checking within the exe itself. When trying to flash an older version (see above) you get a different error.

Later,
Oldie

I upgraded my Pioneer A04 with the way mentioned above. Now my burner locks up when i try to burn on Princo media. I have no idea what manufacturer makes these discs. I haven't tried any other media yet but i will in a short time.

Looks like Mitsui isnt working either. When testing to burn a disc it just hangs at Initializing and does nothing.

I've tried to flash an older firmware to the drive with the Gradius-way wouldn't work either. All i got was that Offset error : 000000.

Seems i'm kinda f*cked :(

If anyone can help me i'll be glad to act as testsubject :)

Of course my dumb ass upgraded to the REAL 1.33 before waiting for forum people to tinker with it... later I find out that the real 1.33 only enables 2x for CMC media. Oh well, I guess I'll just do this trick when a new official version comes out with an updated upgdvd.exe.

Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!

It works, it works!

I had official v1.32 and downgraded to Gradius 1.33 under WinXP (under pure Dos it was impossible "you need to upgrade utility..."). Now Prassi writes the fantastic That's Write DVD-R (lead data) costing only 1,90 Euro each, at 2x!!!!
Thank you again to Gradius and all the crew supporting us!

Francesco

Try this link:-

ftp://firmware:forum@143.107.221.85:9000/

Look at the index to find the file that you need.

derk: nope, thats what i did too, now we must wait for someone to either 1. hack the upgdvd.exe so the stupid version restriction is gone, or 2. a new release by pioneer so we can use a hacked new release like people did when 1.33 came out.
