Hi,
is there any possibility to flash my Toshiba SD-R2412 as Secondary Master?
I want to use it in my Toshiba S5000-214 Notebook, which wants a optical drive set as SM.
The SD-R2412 Drive has the Firmware version 1F19

greetz :)

Use this one: http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=download&id=5141

Most of the CD/DVD drives for laptops that are sold retail are on cable select mode as default.
Toshiba Laptops, as others, use the secondary IDE Channel on master for their optical drives, so the solution is to change the setting from Cable Select to master.

Please find the latest inverse CSEL firmware foryour drive below.

The drive needs to be recognised by the BIOS in order to flash the firmware.
If you do not have a notebook which does, you can alternatively use an IDE-adapter to connect the drive to a Desktop PC.

Instructions:
- Make bootable startup disk. *
- Extract / copy all files in the ZIP file onto the startup disk
- Reboot your PC with the startup disk inserted.
- Type 'update.bat'
F/W will now be updated (you may be prompted to insert a disk, any CD will do)
- Wait for flashing to finish.
- Reboot PC

* For instructions how to create a startup disk, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

On a Windows 2000 system you need to use a startup disk from the operationg systems above.

GREAT!! - thank you very much.
It works well.
I made the Firmware-Update on my Compaq Deskpro EN SFF, because this PC has a Floppy and also an IDE-Adapter for Slimline optical Drives.
Now the Toshiba Satellite S5000 has a working DVD/CDRW Drive.
Great forum - helpful guys :D
