Hello,
i overwrited my UJDA720 Firmware with a UJDA710 Firmware V. 1.00 from Acer. After that it is recognized as a secondary Slave drive. I read a lot about that problem and after all there seems to be only one way - uploading the original firmware. Unfortunately i don't have this anymore. I tried V.1.03 from IBM for my drive, but still there is the secondary slave problem. Everything else works fine.
Does anybody still have an original UJDA720 Firmware or a trick to put my drive back on master mode (no hardware modification, please).
Thank you all

I did a similar thing, installing the wrong firmware for my combo drive. I cannot read any DVDs, only CDs. Now I need a good firmware patch for my UJDA-720 in an Acer Travelmate 630.
Please help me

I, too, am looking for a firmware to revert to, something before v.1.03. It seems since 'upgrading', I can no longer write to CDr's. Used to work like a champ.
So I've gone on a major troubleshooting mission and have come up empty handed. I've tried many types of media, various programs, every possible setting - and nothing. I continue to get errors early in the recording process.
I have even reformatted my hard drive, uninstalled and reinstalled everything, starting from scratch - and nothing. Even tried cleaning the thing. Still nothing.
I'm beginning to wonder if it's a hardware issue and beyond hope of repair? Possibly a laser misalignment or something? Still reads and tests a writing session perfectly, but when it gets down to writing on a disc, it keeps aborting with errors.
Any suggestions or advice?

Well that actually might help me out by helping you out, I have an origional 720 but I need it to work like a secondary unit in a toshiba laptop otherwise conflict with hard disk. I thought there might be some type of hardware setting to set it to secondary but apparently if I go with the 710 firmware that could solve my problem if you can tell me where to get the 710 firmware and if you have some software to rip my firmware I would be happy to upload it.

Sorry for my late answer!
The firmware for UJDA710 you can find here:
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/noteboo ... 00_710.zip
your command is: DRVLOADC /S 100_AC1.720 (for secondary slave)
or DRVLOADC /M 100_AC1.720 (for secondary master)
It uses the following dos commands :
DRVLOADC [/J|/P|/M|/S] [file name]
Option:
/J or /Q or /PM : Primary Master
/P or /PS : Primary Slave
/M or /SM : Secondary Master
/S or /SS : Secondary Slave
/? /H : Display Help
[Hidden Options]
/A : Read Drives Reports (and possibly read firmware?)
Warning: It has to be UPPERCASE 'A' - lowercase will not work here
/F : Skip "Start update ? [Y, N]" confirmation
/O : Ask user to continue on model mismatch
/R : Reset drive before and after flashing
/U : Skip Model and Revision mismatch check
I try to find out how you can backup the original firmware!

you need 2 floppys(1 with dos prompt and mpatch files.other with batch files to use mpatch ver 1.12 to effect,it will prompt you to insert the other disc to load the firmware in compressed in zip format ,afterwards exctract the 1mb firmware from the floppy to your hdd and your ready to reload or upload better yet
why can't i see mpatch ver 1.12here anymore?

Would someone mind reposting this firmware, or sending it directly to me?
My email address is jushin_lyger316@yahoo.com
I really need it desperately. Thank you very much.
