First I want to thank you for your help. I got the DMA on however, I still cannot get the cdrw/dvr to read disks. Do I need to update the firmware and if so how do I do it? Once again I thank you all for your tremendous help.

If packet writing software is installed, uninstall it.
If virtual drives are installed, uninstall or at least disable them.
Is Alcohol software installed, uninstall it as well as all other burning apps. In case of Nero also run the Nero Cleantool from their support site.

You could also uninstall the ide channels by using devicemanager.
