What commandline are you using and what Windows version are you using.

On NT/2k/XP/2k3, if your drive is D:, the commandline to get a dump should be:
Code:
mpatch D:

On 9x/Me, you will need ASPI32 4.60 installed and, provided your DVD drive is 1.0.0 as seen from ASPI32, the commandline should be:
Code:
mpatch 1.0.0

ataProbe is NOT meant to be used in a win32 environment.
ALWAYS REPORT EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE DONE, AND THE EXACT OUTPUT FROM MPATCH. I can't help you otherwise.

Hallo,

I tried the new UJDA 7xx autopatcher bootCD, and it worked really good with my T40p for my UJDA 745 Combo drive. I used the default setting for patching and it burned a backup file (BMX103.745) and a CHANGES.LOG. DiscInfo155 and Nero Info Tool show RPC1 and NOT LOCKED. So far so good.

Since I detected that it doesn't help me very much because of the OS and software locking I wanted to roll back and flash my backup file. I used the 1.12 mpatch floppy version with my BMX103.745 included to boot and flashed it with the flash.bat. It seemed to work, the only thing I was wondering was the message: "new FW version is 1.02" since my original version was 1.03.

But now when I lookup with Nero Info Tool or DiscInfo155 it still says that it is RPC1 and unlocked. Why? Should it not be the original status before patching?

I also tried with the 1.12 floppy version "mpatch -u CHANGES.LOG". Something happens, no error message, looks really good, but again no changes. Still RPC1. The mpatch of the 2.0 version seems not to support the undo option at all. Nothing happens there.

No my question: how can someone undo the changes?

Thank you,

Thomas

Hi,

I tried the procedure detailed by Nil on May 13, 2004.

Booted my Dell C840, which is configured with the IDE CDRW/DVD UJDA740 as drive D:.

Procedure stopped right after ataProbe completed listing all available drives, including the following two lines related to my optical drive.

hd1 (0x1F0, slave ): MATSHITA CD-RW/DVD-ROM UJDA740 [ATAPI drive]
CHS=0:0:0, DMA, LBA, 512K cache

... and then I got the following message:

Device UJDA not found!

I then entered the following command:

ataProbe MATSHITA

The same listing of available drives apeared on the screen, followed by the below line:

Device MATSHITA (MATSHITA CD-RW/DVD-ROM UJDA740) is Primary Slave

It seams as the problem with the string by which the drive is designated.

Is there a way to go around this?

Tried to find the line executing ataProbe in BAT/SYS files, to see if something could be changed. Did not find anything.

I also did not find any workaround in the other messages associated with this topic.

Does anybody have any suggestion?

Thanks is advance,

Avi

"ataProbe UJDA" is in main.bat
If you change it to MATHSITA it should work.
It looks like ataProbe will not recognize the device as an UJDA unless the name actually begins with UJDA, hence your problem.

I'll try to fix that in a later version.

Thanks -- not ataProbe completes OK.

A new problem apeared:

mpatch reports that device 0.0.0 could not be found.

Isaw that before, when running mpatch manually. But, thought it was a result of the previous problem.

I'm stuck again :-(

More help?

Avi

mmm. Do you have any other drives connected on your laptop.
Make sure to disconnect all the drives you can except the UJDA before applying the bootCD

Yes Nil,

I disconnected all USB and Firewire components, and also pulled out the internal Floppy drive.

Still - mpatch wouldn't flash my UJDA, although ataProbe regognize the drive:

hd1 (0x1F0, slave ): MATSHITA CD-RW/DVD-ROM UJDA740 [ATAPI drive]
CHS=0:0:0, DMA, LBA, 512K cache

Any new ideas?

well, yeah:
1/ boot in manual mode and type the command:
Code:
addDev aspi.sys
cdrecord -scanbus
This should tell you what x.y.z your UJDA drive is if not 0.0.0
2/ Either run the whole proecdure manually from there by following what the various batches do or (easier), modify the batch and recreate the bootCD to use the x.y.z you found in step 1 when calling mpatch

Hi all,

How wonderful to check back to the forums to see a new post from Nil with a new Autopatcher! I hope it will get round the problem I previously encountered - Relevant Device could not be accessed. http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=14616

However, I appear to have hit the first hurdle - I can't create the bootable CD! I have followed the (very clear) instructions three times now, and still no joy.... Please accept my apologies if I am being a complete idiot, but some help here would be very useful.

Fujitsu Lifebook C-6599 with UDJA 710 1.02 Secondary Master with Windows 2000 SP4

Cheers,

James

Code:
...
BFD: Creating image "cds\mpatch\files\mpatch.img"
BFD: Running bfi -f=cds\mpatch\files\mpatch.img  -b=os\md701\bootsect.bin -o=io.
sys -t=288 E:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\$bfd$
WriteImaFile() failed
BFD: Aborted...

I found the solution to this - don't use the UK JISC mirror for the downloads of BFD/BCD - they appear to be corrupted

Hi,

To sum up my problems from the previos posts of mine, the following lines in main.bat required changes:

ataProbe UJDA -> ataProbe MATSHITA

mpatch -aps -d%IDEPos% 0.1.0 -> mpatch -aps -d%IDEPos% 0.1.0

I created Boot CD, three times using bcd mpatch, making sure, first, that older files are purged.

Surprise!!! main.bat still contains the original files :-(

Manual entry of the commands gives erratic results :-(

Seems as nothing goes well here.

Help please!

jarss_uk,
This is a Bart boot CD creation problem (and I cannot really support everything here). May I suggest you try from another PC?

avshmu,
Whenever you change a file in cds\mpatch\bootdisk\ you need to delete the cds\mpatch\files\mpatch.img file first, else the bootdisk image that is associated with the CD will not be recreated. But again, this issue comes from Bart's otherwise most excellent way of automating bootCD creation.

Hello Nil,

Created a good CD (with the corrected main.bat).

Booting the machine, the only warning I got was:

Warning: the high memory area (HMA) is not available.
Additional low memory (below 640K) will be used instead.

I don't know if this is a problem.

Anyway, I failed again -- after reading the firmware, execution stopped with the following prompt:

Could not patch firmware!

Seams as mpatch exits with error that directs to END, displaying -
All Done!

BTW - no other drives were connected to the notebook while the process was running.

mmm, there's something weird with your config.
First of all I don't see why your UJDA is 0.1.0. If it's the only CD-ROM you have on your system, it should be 0.0.0
What does the 'addDev aspi.sys' line of command say? Does it detect 2 devices?
Also could you run the ataProbe command (without parameter) and let us know what you see listed there?
Finally, are there any additional messages before the "could not patch" of mpatch?

Dear all,

I can report a successful patch of my UDJA710 1.02 FW at last. The two utilities DiscInfo and DriveInfo both report no region protection. CD reading and burning is still fine, but I don't have any DVDs here to check, will follow up in due course. UPDATE DVDs play too!

Three things learnt:

1) Dont use the BCD/BFD UK JISC mirror site for downloading the apps - it gave me the WriteImaFile() failed problem above that prevented me from creating the bootable CD.

2) My drive was a Primary Slave on the SCSI bus at address 0.1.0 so I had to edit main.bat as described above. ataProve put my HD at 0.0.0

3) >NIL: v2.0 of Mpatch successfully overcame the "Relevant Device could not be accessed" I encountered with the previous version.
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=14616

Bottom Line - An enormous amount of gratitude to >NIL: for his hard work. 30 months later I now have a drive that plays DVDs in my home country! Where do I send the cheque? And the firmwares? Both underscore and x versions?

THANK YOU!

I don't know, and I think you are asking a bit too much of this forum. It's a firmware forum, not a "how-do-I-disassemble-my-drive" forum, so I'm afraid you will have to find that out by yourself...

Hello,

i have a UJDA-755z drive.

Is a dump for this drive still needed?
If yes, can I use the mpatch2 dump function to get the dump?
