Problem using TSDNWIN to flash a drive

I recently looked up some info on the site regarding making a DVD-ROM drive (hp cddvdw ts-l633n) region free. Through this, I discovered a very informative thread on the steps to take to do this. (see http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=47088)

The problem I have is this, when I run the TSDNWIN program in the command line it comes up fine & lets me load the patched BIN file for the firmware update with no issue, but the moment I click the download button another window comes up regarding the upgrade process. This window isn't very big, only shows partial info & has no button to continue the process. The only way I can even exit the program is through the Task Manager.

I'm using a Windows 7 Home Premium OS on my notebook if that helps.

Anyone have any suggestions on this???

That never was a DVD-ROM drive, its a slimtype dvd burner.
Why would you want to run a windows gui program from the commandline???

D'oh! Realised my mistake there...

In the info mentioned in the above topic link, it says to run the TSDNWIN program from a command line, & in fact it was the only way I could run it where it would accept that the firmware was compatible. I downloaded everything from the links posted in the topic & followed all instructions, yet have had no luck in getting it to flash the drive (as I said above, it comes up with another window that doesn't show any button to continue).

Can you try in compatibility mode(s) and also with the DOS version?
Probably you have no (external) floppydisk drive, but a usb stick (DOS bootable) should also work.

I think you run the tool always with the -NOCHECK option, right?!

I am having an issue with using TSDNWIN myself. I am trying to flash a TS-L633N 0300 drive on a HP laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. I followed the first 5 steps from this thread:

The good news is that the TS-L633N is an OEM version of the SN-S083N retail drive, and Samsung has just released firmware SB02 for it in mid December, so if you're willing to void your warranty for the drive (assuming your laptop is still under warranty) you can crossflash your drive to the real thing, and make it RPC1 in the process :wink:

You won't be able to go back to the TS-L633N firmware though, since there is none available and there's no way to dump the existing firmware from Samsung drives.

If you want to go ahead with the crossflash, this is what you need to do:

1. Go to Samsung and download the SN-S083N SB02 firmware: http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/Firmware/ ... wnload.asp
2. Download the Samsung stand alone flasher: http://www.samsungodd.com/KorLib/File/tsdnwin.exe
3. Download ala42's MCSE: http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/
4. Extract the SN-S083N_SB02.bin firmware file from the Samsung flasher you downloaded by using WinRar/WinZip
5. Load the SN-S083N_SB02.bin file in MCSE, click the RPC1 box and save it as SN-S083N_SB02_speedpatched.bin
6. Start the tsdnwin.exe flasher from a command line with the -nocheck parameter: tsdnwin -nocheck
7. Once the flasher opens, load the speedpached firmware in it and then flash your drive.
8. Reboot when asked and enjoy your new RPC1 drive!

When I get to step 6, I can't get the tsdnwin to start via the command prompt. I am not terribly experienced with DOS prompts but I did a directory search for .exe files and it didn't show up. So my question is, do I need to do something else not listed here? Any info is helpful.
