Talon_Sr,
I've split your post from the "New Firmware Release Thread" in the BD forum, because it doesn't belong there!
What is the full model number of your drive and what firmware does it have? Surely its OEM and because of that you cannot use Pioneer updates...

I got it at newegg. It's Pioneer BDR-205BKS -OEM revision 1.04. Because it's OEM I can't flash it? That's absurd. Can I use DVR FLash with the 1.08 revision? DO i need a kernel file? Are there any third party updates here that are comparable to 1.08? DVRFlash says my drive is region locked with RPC-2.

yes, does that mean it's safe to try flashing with it? I don't want to ruin this drive

I tried it and it gave me a "bad checksum" message instantly. Didn't look like it did anything. Now what?

I thought dvrflash was specifically for Pioneer drives? So you're saying there's no way to flash this drive until dvrflash or some other flash utility supports it?

DVRflash is at the moment only for DVDRW drives, there will be no other utility other than the correct official flasher. edit:- agent Smith has released 2.7.6 which supports your drive

Thanks, I tried it but now I get "file size mismatch' error. What gives? Why is this so difficult and what does the Retail BDR205 have in it that allows regular flash from Pioneer's website that OEM model doesn't have? I don't understand why this is so hard to flash. Does Pioneer not also back their OEM models? It's not like it is a rebadged unit or a "knock off" brand. I don't think this would be classified as a trans-flash.

Just as I wote: "File size mismatch"
Was there anything else you wanted? Thanks.
edit: Just in case, here's what it reads:
Drive Information: Description : SATA PIONEER BD-RW Firmware Rev : 1.04 Firmware Date : 09/12/01 Manufacturer : PIONEER Drive is in normal mode.
File size mismatch -----------------------------------------
That's it.

That's it. that's because its the incorrect firmware for your drive, i would imagine the model number Pioneer BDR-205BKS is why, normally BK is for black, S=?, maybe the reason why.

From research on the web, the S at the end of BDR-205BKS just means it comes with bulk software BK does stand for black. Now it's not the software that's preventing this. I don't even have it installed.

Okay, wasnt sure about this, but yours is the SATA version.
How is it connected and set up, or more precisely, what mobo do you have and which settings in the BIOS for the SATA controller?

The Pioneer BD burner is using Gigabyte on-board SATA ports (what is that, Silicon Image?) AND it's using it in IDE mode (not AHCI).

Ok I'm using a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.6) mobo, with the Pioneer BDR-205 on the Gigabyte on-board SATA ports and not the Intel Matrix (since it's filled with HDDs). The Gigabyte ports are configured for IDE emulation mode. I tried AHCI mode, but the system wouldn't recognize the drives. I also have a LITE-ON DVD using an IDE interface with 80-pin ribbon cable. Need anything else? On a side note, I gotta say that you guys are persistent. You usually don't see this kind of help any more. Thanks.
