I checked the firmware on this DVD drive and noticed it was version 40.
I was experiencing problems reading CDs, no matter if they were original (with drivers, etc) or burned. The drive would just try to read it then I would get a "Please insert disc in drive" message pop up. Ironically, I had no problems reading move DVDs and burned DVDs.
Since I got this drive for free, after reading on here about the inherit problems with this firmware I decided to try and flash it since it was useless to me anyway not being able to read CD media.
I made a DOS boot disc (from XP you can format and make a boot disc - go figure, never knew this till I opened the format window) booted to DOS then ran the update.bat file for firmware 41.
I didn't need to tell it which channel it was on, it found it and gave me a successful message.
After booting back into XP, I tried a previous CD that didn't work and it worked! Hooray!
The only downside it seems is that the drive is a little slow until it reads the media, but that's fine, no biggie.
Thanks for this resource, it is truly appreciated!!!
Ciao,
MP

It seems you are one of the most successful users of this drive. I got this drive dd-4010e from a computer I bought used but I can't seem to find that firmware you are using. I have 3 hours looking for this. My eyes and nerves are going nuts. Does anyone know a site you can get it. I would be most appreciative.
