Hi Puma (and everyone),

Would anyone have any valuable information/point me to the right thread to read up on making a Pioneer DVR-118LBK rpc1? I've really been trying hard to search around for a solution to it in this forum and I can't seem to find anything feasible. Somewhere above it was said to use MCSE..I've done that with two types of files I downloaded from the firmware database of this forum (namely the DVR118-CHV and DVR-A18 LBK as I don't know which is the right one). I've used MCSE to rpc1 the file but however I realised the file is a .exe one. So what's the next time after I rpc1 this .exe file? Use DVRFlash? (I tried but to no avail as I think DVRFlash needs to have that two file thing - bin and firmware or something)

Someone please help me! It's urgent!!

Regards and thanks
Ed

had this few times. the exe is what you run, once you have patched it with MCSE. But pioneer started complicating things with all these models and numbers etc. You can try the A18LBK. The flasher would just tell you if there is no compatible drive found.

Hi Puma,

Thanks for the response..at least I knew I was doing the right thing but not getting the result. As in, I also tried to run this .exe file and when I press the update button in the FwFlash program, a prompt pops up that reads "Error: The device does not match with this FW !!!". In fact, I got that same prompt with the DVR-118CHV exe file that I downloaded (which seemed like the more correct one as it seemed to match the drive model, ie. DVR-118 LBK)

However, I also read in one of the threads here about Pioneer DVR-118 drives that they are not really made by Pioneer or something? Is there some news/light on that?

In summary, I just wanna know how to go about making a DVR-118 rpc1..and I feel lost and helpless atm..

Regards
Ed

As Puma said, patch the update package (flasher) or firmware with MCSE first....

Hi Chef,

I did that previously to both file types that I downloaded. And when I ran the .exe file, a prompt came up that said 'Error: The device does not match with this FW !!!'. I downloaded both file types and use MCSE on them from this forum's firmware database..did I download the wrong one?

Regards
Ed

There doesn't seem to be an update for your drive at the moment. Odd as they usually release them all together.

Thanks so much, so I guess I'll just wait around and check back at this forum from time to time for an update to the DVR-118 firmware then. Thanks again.

Ed

PS: Mm is there any other way to know if the update will be released by you guys other than manually coming to the forum to search around?

Eddiction try using the DVR-A18L FW1.02_100122 from the following link and see if it works:

http://www.pioneer-optical.eu/Downloud_ ... 100122.zip

Also try the newer DVR-A18L FW1.03_110322 from here:

http://www.pioneer-dvd.com.tw/Downloud_ ... 110322.zip

Maybe one of them will work for you.

Nice début! 8O Feeling a bit condescending today, are we?

In between your (misplaced) laughs you might as well realise that:

1. If you pay some attention to the earlier posts in the thread you'll see that Eddiction has already patched the firmwares with MCSE ...

2. Your advice regarding patching the flasher might well apply for older Pioneer drives up to and including the DVR-117/217/A17/S17 models, but drives from the 118 series upwards are all based on a QSI design, with the firmware being 'built in' into the flasher (unlike for previous 'real' Pioneer models based on NEC chipsets where the flasher and the firmware were separate and in most cases the flasher had to be patched too).

Conclusion: If you're laughing at someone else's expense, you'd better be 100% sure you're right, or risk some    later ...
