I've a problem with my LG DRD8160B. I've bad flashed it and now is dead
UPGRADE.BAT tell me that there isn't any firmware in the directory but I've put the 2 bin files in it....
If I manually use MTKFLASH (this command MTKFLASH 4 W A0 /B BIDE00.BIN and A1 and BIDE01.BIN for the other bank) it tell me that can't open imput file!!
So, what now I can do?

The extension isn't really important, the contents of the .ROM file is still binary data. Type the command with the .rom extension and it will flash fine.
"mtkflash # w /b 4480B100.ROM"
"w /b", not "w/ b/"

I have a dead LG8520.
When I try to reflash with the MTKFLASH utility I got this error: "Fail to erase flash". How I can erase the flash?

I have a dead LG GCE-8523B too.
When I try to flash with the MTKFLASH utility I got this error: "Fail to erase flash". I tried MTKFlash for DOS and Windows, without success. They give back the same error message the LG Updater did. In MTKFlash for DOS, I notice it updates succefully banks 0 and 1, but it fails to erase all the following banks. Is there an option to force the software to overwrite the banks without erasing them first, or something like that ? How I can erase the flash?
Thanks a lot..
Ps: Sorry, my english is poor...

Well i am a bit confused. I am trying to backup the firmware on a LG HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8161B but after giving this command mktflash.exe 3 r /b /m 100.bin it stalls and doesn't do anything. This is in true DOS mode with 1.55 and with 1801. I've seen that the drive has to be compatible but i can't find a compatible list. Any pointers ?
And a bit off topic, the upgrade with bios version 0102 got Flashup.exe included but to my understanding it doesn't backup the firmware. Is this correct. ? Or is there another flash util around what i can use to "safely" backup and flash ?

hI. i HAVE AN BRAND NEW LITE-ON COMBO LTC-48161H KHOM drive that i have unsuccessfully flashed using MTKWIN FLASH. i have a program called "drive region info" that tells me drive is still region protected but that i have 4 changes left, the punch line is that when ever i put a dvd into rom i get told that region area error etc.. and that rom drive is set. I know the rom is set to 1 but even with region 1 dvd's i get same problem and same result. I have the trial region free program and that allows me to watch dvd's of any region and the rom plays cd-roms so i'm unsure if the firmware is stuffed beyond repair as it can do these two things.
When using MTKWIN FLASH for the flashing( i used the correct firm ware file also) during the process the program said error cause it didn't know the flash type. So i figure this is the problem cause after that it said completed and restart which i did, to find above probelms. I'm thinking i'll use this rom until i get a new one cause the region free trial program makes it o.k 4 30 days, but if anyone has any info, do pass on please, since that might let me fix the initial problem or at least understand what went wrong so i don't make a similar mistake next time!
thks Nick.

hey can you tell me how did you do it?
what program do you use?
thanks.
fred1996, i think i read on the forums somewhere that you must go to system properties and delete the IDE controller things... i am not sure exactly which component you want to delete...
after that reboot...
do a search. its either on the www.cdfreks.com forum or this forum.

You have to use mtkflash with a binary firmawre in IDE mode, it's working even if the drive is not recognized in the bios

I have been using MTK with a lot of success, but it only works on the IDE ports. I need to flash a SCSI drive. What should I use for that??

Hey ... I have faced exactly the same problem with my Asus E616 when applying firmware 2.2 (I had already patched the drive a year ago with 2.0p succesfully)
Although I believe the drive is out of order now , could someone help "repair" it ... ?? Bios doesn't recognize the device...
