Hi all
Hoping someone can help me please.
Have successfully used DVRFlash 2.2 on this DVR-K05 before, but is now reporting that 'The PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05 is not supported by this utility - aborting'
Previously successful flashing used the firmwares in DVRK05_INV_FW103EU2.EXE, namely T5100067.103 and T5100167.103
---------------------------------------------------
Commandline:
dvrflash -vff d: T5100067.103 T5100167.103
Reading firmware 'T5100067.103'...
firmware is of Kernel type (PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05 1.03 )
Reading firmware 'T5100167.103'...
firmware is of Normal type (PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05 1.03 )
Drive Information:
Description : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05
Firmware Rev : 1.03
Firmware Date : 05/04/17
Manufacturer : PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.
Additional Drive Information:
Serial Number : ---
Interface type : ATA
DVR generation : 0067
Kernel type : GENERAL
Normal type : GENERAL
Kernel version : 0004
Status : RPC-2 (region locked)
Region : none
Changes : 5 region changes remaining
4 vendor resets remaining
state is 'Region not set'
The PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05 is not supported by this utility - Aborting
--------------------------------------------------
Any ideas anyone please?
cheers

Hi PumaUK, and thanks for the reply
Yes it's version 2.2
Ran in Safe Mode, same result i'm afraid :-(
I'm wondering if the roots of this problem may lie in the firmware that is on there at the moment...
Unfortunately i didn't save a copy of the DVRFlash output after successfully flashing last time but i do remember seeing model DVR-K15 being mentioned, even though the files came from DVRK05_INV_FW103EU2.EXE
Might this be a cause at all?
cheers

Basically, after flashing the drive with some DVRK05_INV_FW103EU2.EXE firmware (T5100067.103 and T5100167.103), i was expecting to have a drive that would be recognised in my Mac using the regular Master/Slave set-up.
It wasn't however, and no matter what combination of position on the 80-pin IDE cable and no matter what jumper settings i set the companion hard drive to (on the same cable), and every combination between them, the DVR-K05 isn't recognised, either on boot-up or in Apple's System Profiler, it previously was but wouldn't allow the important boot-up facility, that's why i tried to change it.
Because it wasn't (allowing the boot-up facility), i decided to flash it with some firmware that i believed would solve the problem [the DVRK05_INV_FW103EU2.EXE firmware (T5100067.103 and T5100167.103] which did successfully flash using DVRFlash 2.2
This didn't solve the boot-up problem however and so now i'm trying to flash the drive to get it back to it's original state, using the original Pioneer firmware (DVR-K05 1.03 RPC-2 T5100066.103 & T5100166.103).
It was then that i now received the message in DVRFlash 2.2 - 'The PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05 is not supported by this utility - Aborting'.
My subsequent attempts (shown by the DVRFlash output at the top of this thread) was trying to flash the drive again with the exact same firmware that is on the drive at the moment, just as an experiment, the T5100067.103 & T5100167.103 which had previously been successful.
Now unfortunately, it's not :-(
I'm stumped, maybe the drive is now 'locked-down' or something similarly melodramatic! :-)
I shouldn't laugh, i think i may have to buy another drive.

Hi chef
Unfortunately that didn't work, same message i'm afraid:
'The Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K05 is not supported by this utility - Aborting'
To confirm i used T5100066.103 from tdb, T5100166.103 from the RPC-2

No flasher/updater in the tdb, but there is one in the RPC-2 called UPGK05.
Using this gives the message 'FW is already latest' (1.03) and won't proceed with the flash.

Bad to the bone!
Well at least the drive actually works in a PC.
Time to find it a new home i think (in it's forever RPC-2 locked state).
and me, i'll get myself a replacement that will work 'off the bat' in my Mac.
Or maybe send it to Pioneer who supplied the firmware in the first place.
Well, many thanks go to you and PumaUK for taking the time.
all the best

Bingo!
I asked from and have just received from Pioneer an earlier version of the DVR-K05 INV 1.03 firmware, namely:
DVRK05_INV_FW091.EXE (T5100067.091 & T5100167.091)
It was a nail-biter using the Pioneer updater (UPGK05I) as they had advised me previously that 'once you have updated to the latest firmware update, you cannot go back to a previous firmware update'. Unrealistically hoping this wasn't the case, hell what else have i got to lose (what with DVRFlash 2.2 and the DVR-K05 not getting along in it's current condition) it was my last roll of the dice.
'Firmware successfully updated'... or some words to that effect, YEAH!!!
Then it was just a straightforward updating the drive to TDB's 'normal' 1.03 version, thus removing the *Inverse* version (DVRK05_INV_FW103EU2) which i'd put on hoping to resolve my original 'master/slave/cable-select/inverse' problem (which it hadn't).
Phew! hope you're getting this :-)
also i just tried DVRFlash 2.2 to see if it would 'support' the newly blessed DVR-K05 again and yes it does, so the title of this thread is correct i suppose but only in very limited circumstances after doing the tinkering i did, but it can always be resolved (by flashing with the Pioneer-supplied earlier version with their own updater and re-flashing back with the RPC-2 or TDB 1.03 one)
What's really strange is that my original problem seems to have disappeared now, the DVR-K05 now allows booting on my Mac in the Slave setting, before it would just hang on startup, even though it has the same TDB 1.03 firmware on as before when it wouldn't.
Then again nothing surprises me as far as this Mac of mine is concerned, it seems to change behaviour on different occasions when the configurations and setup are totally identical. Best advice if it ain't fixed... ;-)
well, all is working and yep, happy again!
cheers guys

Nice!
Could you please send a copy of that file to one of our moderators/admins, or maybe me?
Best Regards! _chef_
