How do I flash a PCMCIA DVD-ROM? I've got the patch for my Toshiba drive from your firmware page. I've created a DOS bootdisk and cardsoft drivers. The DVD-ROM seems to be detected by the drivers but your VUP99L.EXE doesn't detect the Toshiba drive. What should I do? Pls help. Thanks.

Unfortunately you might be SOL. Most, if not all, flash updaters talk directly to the IDE ports (0x1F0, 0x170, etc), and cannot deal with PCMCIA. To flash the firmware of the drive, you will need to remove it from the enclosure and attach it to a physical IDE port on a PC. If the drive is of the slim format, it makes things even worse. The slim drives use a weird microconnector, but they all have the same connector so I assume it is somewhat an industry standard. Even so I have not seen any converters (like those for 2.5-inch hard drives) that allow you to use them with standard 40-wire ribbon cables.

Some PC makers make slim rack mount PCs
with laptop CD drives. I bought on EBAY
a DVD drive with an enclosure for such
PC and it comes with a connector to let you
install a laptop CDROM/DVDROM drive on
a desktop PC. I was thinking hard what
this thing could be used for until seeing
this thread :P
