Hi guys

I'm wondering if any1 can help me. i've just purchased this new pioneer 118 ide drive updated to the latest firmware.

the only 2 firmwares i can find are these

Version Date desc Filename
1.02 22nd January, 2010 DVRA18_FW1.02_100122.zip
1.02 31st August, 2009 DVR-A18LBK_FW102_090831.zip

I cannot burn dvd-r disks at 8x at all only supports upto 6x max. so updated to the 1.02fw 2010

still the same. i hear there maybe a patched firmware for this drive available. i've always used pioneer drives and always used the same ritek g05 disks and never had issues burning at 8x till i got this drive. can any1 help me please.

thanks guys n kind regards

realtreat

If you request firmware, you must follow our request rules!

Your problem is not firmware related - your problem is low quality media!!!

low quality media that's a load of rubbish, i have always used arita ritek dvd-r with the rest of my pioneer drives 112 115 116 and never had problems burning at 8x with these disks. ok they may not be verbatim dye but the dye is good enough, the problem is the daft firmware. i mean i've just purchased the new pioneer DVR-S19LBK and what do u know it burns at 8x, so it's easy to say i'm using low quality media which is not the case.

pioneer need to pull there fingers out and create fw that works with all ritek dye disks.

I am more than hoest with you, what you posted here is what I call "rubbish".
Are you blind or just ignorant??
Ritek G05 - take a sec and perform a search about it. Also accept that since the x18 models Pioneer burners are QSI clones, nothing nec/pio anymore.

Start thinking.
What's up with you? In post #1 you told you bought an x18 drive, now you tell us you bought an x19? What of that is true??

LBNL, I already told you to apply to our request rules. :!:

i bought both dvr-s19lbk sata and dvr-a18l ide i wanted an ide version of the new 119 but i dont think it's been made. so opted for the dvr-a18l. the 118 is crap in my opinion if it won't burn at 8x disks. i've always used arita ritek disks never had any issues. maybe it will burn at 8x with a different brand of media. but arita ritek are far from the worst brand of media. i know disks with tayo yuden dye such as verbatims etc are decent which i'm goin to test next, and i'm also going to test some crap cheapo media. i'm just funny when it comes to disks i tend to stick to 1 brand, some of the arita riteks i've used have had f1 dye. all the same to me never any issues.

And that is your thinking problem...
You are using DVD-R media with G05 Dye, this is WORM media, you never ever can re-use them.
So, you always buy new batches of this media and the manufacturer or reseller always changes its sources....

Take DVD-R media which were manufactured in 2005 and also media from 2010 and burn and compare them, you will always notice the quality decrease with most of all brands. Even with a cheap quality scanner like a Liteon burner you would note the difference.
As for RITEK: G04 was stable and foolproof, G05 changed all that, outsourced and the market got flodded with cheap G05 fakes....
Here is a link about G05:

TDK 16x DVD-R 4.7GB MBI 01RG40..

just purchased these and tested them TDK 16x DVD-R 4.7GB MBI 01RG40 and These allow burning upto 18x on my 118 and same again with my 219. i did actually notice a difference in the ritek media a few years ago as prices decreased. but i have always trusted ritek dye as they have always served me well. seems i may change to these tdk after i do a little research on them, i did read that verbatim use this dye aswell as taiyo yuden unless its the same dye with a different name.

Thanks for you help and info mate i appreciate it. i was just frustrated that i have always purchased pioneer and plextor drives and only ever had probs with the 118. oh well i might smash it up for a xmas buzz lol and hope santa brings me the new plextor PX-L890Sa. :)

Well, just fair.

I personally would stay away from TDK dvd media.
I rather buy maxell than tdk or something for daily usage.

Still have enough JVC/TY and Verbatim media here, MIJ or MIS.

Remember the 118 series of drives are not by pioneer. I know your point, the 116 backwards handled the ritek G05 not to badly

infact i seen some maxell in lidl supermarket of all places for £1.75 for a pack of 10. gunna give them a blast. yes very dissapointed with the 118 it even leaved like a ring on the burned media as if its burnedstopped and burned again. and thats on every dvd-r, the 219 is ok tho. i have a 116 spare but the drive stick on it have to press eject of tap it to open. very annoying.

anyway thanks for the info guys and hope u all have a good xmas. my birthday is xmas day also the big 30 for me.

The burn rings are because of the write strategy used.

CLV vs. CAV

I know the x19 drive is better but the x18 is not that bad.

Still a write strategy related thing depending on the firmware, media and write speed.
