Hi, I was wondering if someone has created either an RPC1 or RPC2 auto-reset firmware for this drive. It is a laptop drive used in the Acer Aspire 5739G (and presumable other Acer laptops).

I'd like to provide a link to the official firmware, but I'm not really sure where to find it. I will of course dump the firmware from my own drive if someone points me towards the application to do this.

Thanks.

I have the same dive build in an ASUS M60J Notebook.

The FW Revisision here is AS02.

I think this are OEM FW's. Will retail FW's work if there is one?

On the LG Webpage is no info about this drive.

Slimtype drives have OEM firmwares, no "retail".

Sorry for the slow reply, I have been preoccupied with exams.

I was not able to extract the firmware with the above programs I'm afraid, though I will have another attempt tonight.

The GT30N uses a Panasonic chipset and firmware type, so the dumper will not work here.
Edit: I have already updated the MCSE RPC1 patch to match the GT30N firmware, but have to valid it first.

^I noticed you've just released a new version, that supports the GT20N. Does it also support the GT30N?

It does, but it is not tested on a drive yet.

Does anyone know where to obtain a firmware for this drive (or how to extract one from my own drive)? I will obviously report here if the patch appears to work.

I patched my Asus-LG GT30N from AS02 to ASS2.

I use MCSE 1206 newest version and enabled RPC1 and Read speed incrase for the bin-file.
At the exe-file I enabled standalone flasher.

Than I got the files: R5_ASS2_speedpatched.exe + R5_ASS2_speedpatched.bin
Next I start the exe file choose the bin file an booted the notebook.

After that DISC info shows:
DriveRegionStatus Lock Detected
RegionSettingStatus Set
Changes left 4
Manufactor resets 4
Current Region 2

Is this normal that a lock is detected?

As ala42 posted it hadn't been tested on a drive until you have done it, if you have no region blocking software running, then the patch does not work, sure ala can advise you better

No, the lock is not normal for an RPC1 firmware.

Did you directly flash from AS02 to the RPC1 patched ASS2 without flashing the official ASS2 before ?
Do you see ASS2 as the current firmware revision ?

No at firtst I flashed only the bin file and not the exe file to standaloneflascher.
Than i could not choose a bin file and saw with 7z that the exe file includes the fw too so i think i flshed first the offical fw.

Second i flssh the ext to standalone flascher and could choose my speedpatched bin file.
Yes I can see ASS2 as current FW - see DiscInfo output:

DISCINFO VERSION : 1.7.0 BETA.12
VENDOR : HL-DT-ST
MODEL : DVDRAM GT30N
REVISION : ASS2
VENDOR SPECIFIC : 09/07/08 7U01
LOADING MECHANISM : Tray
SERIAL NUMBER : ---
NUMBER VOL. LEVELS : 255
BUFFER SIZE : 1024KB
INTERFACE : ATAPI
RPC2 SCHEME : YES
STATUS : Set
USER CHANGES : 4
VENDOR CHANGES : 4
CURRENT REGION : 2

But it shows at DriveRegionStatus: Lock Detected as with original ASS2 FW.
I can pay RC 2 DVD's without problems. Other Regions I havent't to test at the moment.

Please start up in SAFE MODE and check the state again.

To be sure that the patched firmware was flashed at all, check your private messages for instructions.

I actually have an Acer laptop, and Acer seem to use a different numbering scheme (perhaps even different firmware). The firmware for my drive is apparently '1.01', which differs greately from 'ASS2'. I have no idea if they are actually different firmwares, though Asus's patcher correctly identifies my existing firmware as 1.01. I can't seem to find an Acer-specific firmware on their page, though I will of course do some digging on the net.

Hello ala42,

I made what you wrote to me - thanks:
-flash back to 02 with speedptched.exe
-reboot
-flsch again with speedpatched.exe and speedpatched.bin S2
-reboot

But DiscInfo shows again lock detected - region set to 2, 4 changes left?

Did you see revision AS02 after the first flash and then ASS2 after flashing the RPC1 patched firmware ?
