Request: Optiarc RW AD 5670S

New mac minis (early 2009) come with this DVDR unit, which is virtually unheard of in every Internet forum.

The information that I found using DVD Info X is
Vendor: OPTIARC
Model: DVD RW AD-5670S
Firmware: 2AHF
RPC-2 (region locked)
State is NOT SET
4 vendor resets left
5 region changes left
No region set

It does not even appear among the official site for drivers. Anyone up for the challenge?
Is there a different procedure to provide all the information needed for a request, given that it's a mac or should I try to get most of it through WinXP under Boot Camp?

Looking at the Google cache of a since removed page suggests that this may be an OEM rebrand of the AD-7670S.

There is no official firmware update available for this drive on the Optiarc website.

I also have a new Mac Mini with this drive and would very much like to remove the region restrictions. I have a UK DVD (Region 2) collection and have since moved to Hong Kong where I have been buying Region 3 discs...

Seems to be a AD-7591S type firmware. Next MCSE release supports the drive, but MCSE has no NEC RPC patch.

There is an official firmware update here :

for AD5670-2AHG to 2AHH and 2AHI.
And AD5670-1APG
And more for Mini and iMac

No idea if it's usable.

2AHH and 2AHI are already available incl. firmware patch.

Hi - I have OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S, but my Firmware Revision is 2AHC.

Anyone know if I can I use the 2AHI or 2AHH firmware versions for RPC-1?

I have done some hunting and have been unable to find any information about 2AHC other than the fact that some people thought it was an error that it was not included in the revisions that were updated to 2AHH by SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0.

So did you flash to 2AHI?

If you can, please create a dump of 2AHC before flashing with another firmware and send the backup to Liggy.
