Despite my laptop is ASUS I've upgraded the factory unit with this one so the drive is not ASUS related.

I would like to flash the drive to RPC-1. In case you need extra information, please let me know.

Many thanks

You cannot bend the slimtype drive rules, you always need the regarding manufacturer (OEM) firmware for your optical drive to function properly.

Does that drive work properly with the current firmware?

The BD-5730S firmwares are encrypted and nobody has found out yet how to decrypt them or somehow get access to an unencrypted version.

Is it because the firmware is embeded in the exe or because someone extracted the firmware from the updater and checked that was encrypted?

Thanks

The flasher executables consist of the actual flasher software plus an encrypted firmware. The firmware is not decrypted by the flasher when it's sent to the drive so the drive somehow needs to take care of the decryption.
