Hi,

I am looking for the firmware for this drive to remove the region protection if possible.

This was my first attempt at backing up firmware so if there is a problem with it please let me know.

This is from a HP Pavillion DV2914ca. I have attached the firmware and disc info in the zip.

Thanks in advance.

use LtnRPC to remove the region lock, no firmware modification is required

I ran the LtnRPC app to set my laptop DVD player to be region free, per the suggestion above. My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv2700 notebook PC, which is a slightly different model than the original poster's, but I have the same DVD-ROM model. I just want to double check...Is there is anything else I need to do (i.e. modify any firmware, etc.)??

If you have a Liteon drive then LtnRPC is the easiest and safest route.
Just run it and enjoy!

hi capnsloan
this dump is not correct, it's only 1MB and should be 2MB.
Can you dump it one more time? Use Flash_Utility-3.0.3 with option of 2MB flash file.
I need it for reflashing my bricked drive and you're my last hope

You could try, but with those drives you cannot use a dump from another drive because of its unique calibration data, AFAIK.

I want to try, cause now it seems to be dead. Led is not flashing, drive is not recognized in bios/windows, and if connected to computer it makes HDD not recognized by bios and system cannot start. Weird
It looks like it's blocking IDE.
I tried to flash it by XSF but it stops at:
Code:
Chipset Type: 1589
CMD: 0x98
Flash ROM: MXIC(MX25L1605A)
Flash Id: C2 14
Drive Type: UNKNOWN
Bank/Sector: 32/512
Skip Range: 1E0000-1FFFFF
SerialFlash Status timeout !
2A
Elapsed time: 21.00 sec.

So it means that XSF founds it but doesn't recognize ?

I also tried to flash with mtkflash but it hangs on "Port 1f0 Primary a0" or something similar

Is there any chance to make that drive work again? At least to be recognizable by bios and windows so maybe LtnFW could help.
