I have an Acer Extensa 7620-4792 notebook with a DVD writer reported as a "Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P ATA Device", current RPC II firmware reported (by Nero Infotool) as CA11.

I have no idea who actually makes this drive, but I am looking for RPC1 firmware for it. Any help appreciated!

Output from Disc Info doesn't show much:

DISCINFO VERSION : 1.7.0 BETA.12
VENDOR : Slimtype
MODEL : DVD A DS8A1P
REVISION : CA11
VENDOR SPECIFIC : 2006/12/01 19:05
INTERFACE : ATAPI
RPC2 SCHEME : NO

Output from Nero Infotool shows the following:

Hope this is sufficient, and thanks in advance.

this is a liteon drive, so LtnRPC should work, have you tried it?

Thanks... No, haven't tried LtnRPC yet, but will give it a go. Would have preferred to go the "firmware update" route... anyone know if any RPC1 firmware exists for this drive?

no, LtnRPC is there for liteon drives, its simple and done in one click, no patcher will ever release an RPC1 firmware for this

do you think you could send me a copy of the firmware?

I have the same drive, but for some reason DVD+R DL is not an option with mine, even though it is supposed to allow that.

Mine came with revision CX-17. I think that flashing your version might help me out.

If anyone is interested here is the firmware that I have. It is dated 09-21-2007, version CX17.

Previously I had posted that I could not burn DVD+R DL, but seems the problem was Nero. I upgraded to the latest version and now I can burn both DVD+/- R-DL

If one of the coders could fix the RPC2 thingy, I would be grateful.

This bin was made with LTNRpc

Just apply the LtnRPC utility from dhc014.rpc1.org, and your drive becomes rpc1

It is always good to read a whole thread.

Hello! I am a noob in here but i have also issues with my DS8A1P dvdrw. Could anybody post a link with the most recent firmware update of this drive? And could anyone help me with flashing the drive with ltn flash 2.2.4? I dont really understand the "flash size" and "flash id" in the program. I would be very grateful for any help. Thanks in advance! :)

It came with firmware version CX12. When I flashed to version CX17 that I dl from here I saw that nothing had changed, just the version name. I backed up my new CX17 firmware and I compared it through Media Code Speed Edit. I saw that the speeds after and before were the same! On the contrary, when I open the downloaded firmware with MCSE there are indeed some differences. I suppose I flashed it wrong or someething like that. I would appreciate some help how to flash my drive correctly.. If anyone has a more recent firmware than mine for this drive, pls let me now!:)

Hi kind people.
I got the same drive and also downloaded CX17 (CA11 now) from this site (thanks artbatista), but can't burn it into. No one utility helps (ltnfw, Flash_Utility) (got M$ Vista OS).

Dear artbatista. How did you make a bin with LTNRpc? Is that possible? Did you mean LTNfw?

Dear raptaras, can you explain how did you succeed to upgrade?

BTW, OmniPatcher does not recognized it well (as well as mine CX11). If Omni works, i would change drive ID.
To ALL, perhaps FW is not 1024, but 2048 kb?

yes, as LtnRPC does not back firmware up, just makes the drive RPC1, what happens when you use the flash utility from the codeguys?

I just used the utility, but changed flash size to 1024 because the backed up firmware had that size(although I dont know exactly what "flash size" is used for :P).
But as I said nothing but the name of the firmware version had changed. The date of the firmware revision remained the same, as did the writing speeds in MCSE.
Can anyone help us in finding this firmware version officially? That would be great!

"Flash_Utility.exe v.2.2.4 - I am able to "Read Flash", "Write Flash" button is disabled (gray), as well as "Update boot code".

What utiluty? Codeguys's one?

I can't find any official support of this drive. Since it is a LiteON drive, I would change Drive ID to LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1653S and use LiteON's updates but another thing - Codeguys's OmniPatcher doesn't work with it :( and SOHW-1653S updates are too old - latest that is officially available dated 2005/11/25 11:47.

So seems like, we have to wait "a kind guy" with new FW.

be careful as the utlity is telling you the flash file size should be 2mb, that is why its greyed out, first backup, your firmware from the drive, then see what size the file is

Stop these attempts. The DS8A1P is a laptop drive, the SOHW-1653S is a standard half height PC drive. You can not use a 1653 firmware on a laptop drive.
