I am very confused now.. ACER staff said it's illegal hence it seems impossible they are gonna release a firmware to unlock the region protection. Could you please advise me on what I should do?
Thank you so much for your help!

Thank you so much for your help! What else should ACER tell you? And what did you tell them to get such an answer??

Using unofficial firmware voids your warranty.

Thank you so much for your help! no acer don't release a Region free firmware, they release an official RPC2 one, which then could possibly be patched to region free by ala42, all this of course is not necessary if you read ala's post

As you know, I have successfully flashed my MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ862AS to RPC-1. However on playing a DVD (coded region 3) - Con Air (movie) - I get this display in the player window: "This player is incompatible with the region marking of this disc."
I have tried Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, VLC media player, PowerDVD (gave me a region window of which I needed to select region 3 - I just cancelled it). I have also tried the above with AnyDVD, DVD Region Killer, DVD Region Free, and DVD genie (although I am not too sure on how to use this particular software).
My computer is acer aspire 4810TG, running on Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit).
I am not sure why it isn't working... is it because it's Windows 7 and 64-bit? Could you give me some advice on what to do?
Thanks so much!

Thanks so much! i was interested to know how this would work myself. If you read the FAQ, it explains patching the drive is only half the job, you need to bypass windows/player software also with software like you posted. But most of them don't touch these matshita drives. The drive is RPC1 now, for sure?, i'm assuming ala sent you it?.

I am perplexed as to why it doesn't work. Both DISCInfo + DVD Info shows my drive to be RPC-1 (no lock detected). Is it because I use PowerDVD 8? Does DVD Genie work with a version as new as that? AnyDVD, Region Killer etc doesn't seem to do anything. They are not DVD player softwares per se, am I correct?. I opened AnyDVD, and then play the DVD on WMP, MPC, VLC - all doesn't work (that is how you use AnyDVD right?). When I use PowerDVD 8 it says i need to set the region to region 3 (currently it's unset). Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help! AnyDvd doesn't need to be open, as long as its running in the background, and the icon is in the taskbar, you can set the region, no issue there. Check then if you play another region code, if it asks you to change again from the region 3 you have set, really the software should be aiming at PowerDVD, and not the drive

Hello all, I own a DELL XPS m1530, equiped with a Matshita UJ-875s. The DVDInfo tool returns the following information: Attachment:
DVDinfo.png [ 19.38 KiB | Viewed 5527 times ]
I have also seen that ala42 has released some firmwares for the UJ-875s. My question is: can I use any of this firmwares? If so, which program should I use to flash/dump (for backup) the firmware under Windows (or DOS) environment? I have searched the site and googled about a flasher, but all I could find were softwares like Matshitaflaser and Simpleflash for MAC. Appreciate any help! Thanks.

Appreciate any help! Thanks. there isn't a windows dumper or flasher released at present by ala, and the one's listed are not suitable for your drive,

Sorry, I have not found the time for the first release, yet. I will send you the current test version of the dumper, which also builds an RPC1 patched firmware, and the flasher.

Hello everyone. I'm not a noob to PC's but a total noob to flashing drives (never done it before). I have a Teake UJ-845 portable usb drive and nero info tool tells me it's a matshita dvd-ram UJ-85JS. I have 2 region changes left and it's region 2 at the moment. I need it to be without region restrictions and region free softwares don't work with this drive. I bought and installed Anydvd/Anydvd HD software and it too failed to allow region 1 discs to be played and and a pop up stated that I may find a solution @ rpc1, so here I am How do I make this drive region free ? Just to add that Nero gave me this info: matshita dvd-ram UJ-85JS DVD-RAM RECORDER Firmware: F100 RPC II

XPS5130,
Ala42 has given me the test versions of the dumper/patcher and flasher. The dumper/patcher seams to work, since it managed to create two .dat files, one containing the original firmware dump and the other the patched RPC1 version. But I have not had time to test the flasher yet. The reason is that I am currently running W7 64bits in my machine and I am afraid I might get negative results, because the dumper warns while running: "assuming 32 bit address space". I am not sure what could happen. So, the next step is to install Win XP or other 32 bit Windows in another HD and try the flasher. If you already have 32 bit windows I guess you are good to go. Ask ala42 for the programs, he hasn't allowed me to distribute it. Anyway, post your results here afterwards.
Regards!

The message "assuming 32 bit address space" relates to the drive, not the operating system running on the PC. Dumper and flasher work fine with Win7 64bit, even when Win7 is running in a VM on a Mac.
I will probably clean up the package and release it next weekend. It supports drives from UJ-84x to UJ-89x. Older drives use a different firmware file format and are not supported yet. BD drives are also not supported yet for other reasons.

ala42 - your dump/flash tools worked perfectly and I have flashed my drive with the RPC1 firmware. I checked with discinfo and the drive is now region free.
I wanted to say a BIG thank you as I had given up hope of finding a rpc1 firmware for my matshita 875 drive!
Tpascal - thanks for your post. I had no issues flashing my drive (athough I am running Vista 32 bit)
Good luck all.

Are theere any tools for the combo drives that will work? THat link sends me straight to the DVD writer page.
I have to say, i'm a touch surprised that this 3 year old drive still hasn't been cracked yet, newer drives are being cracked all the time but older series, 200s, 120s, still remain uncrecked? Did Matshita do a number on their firmware or something? OR is it just simply that the newer firmware is easier to crack?

Either you follow the advice given regarding this word/posting or you'll not get an answer here. Secondly, this is a request thread and you have to apply to the request rules. count23 wrote: [_chef_] wrote: Start reading the first post, now!
