'then your Nero version must be obsolete or for another OEM drive. Update it.

Hi,

I have a Matshita UJ-820S in a Toshiba laptop and was wondering if it was possible to replace this drive with another one by taking it out and putting another one in its place (preferably a slot load one)? If so which ones would fit into it and can be flashed to RPC1?

Thank you!!!!

Greetings!

Well, I'm new in all of this and I bought a SW-9587S but I can't make it work (I mean a "Insert disc in drive" or something-like-that sign appears and don't recognize any CD or DVD i put in it)...

Cos I don't understand very well, I don't know if the problem is in the subject you can help me solving, I mean a firmware issue...

Sorry for my ignorance...

One more thing: I don't find this model in the link of the list of the first post's list.

Thanks

If you cannot change the drive settings in the Laptop BIOS then you cannot use that drive with it.

this thread should tell you about firmware, also be more specific, is the drive detected by the bios?

also read this http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3 ... &x=12&y=13

Deleting the Upper & Lower Filters is a common way these days to solve such issues...........

Hi there everybody

(I don't know if this question goes here so if I'm in the wrong place please forgive me and show me the way.)

From what I understand, there's no firmware update yet for the MatshitaDVD-R UJ-857D, right?

So what if I select a zone for my drive now, if there's a new firmware available with multi zone support, will it work? or will the drive keep my selection anyway in the future?

I'm asking because I haven't selected a zone because from what I've read, this could [*Profanity*] my future possibilities to allow all zone reading on my drive, but I'm not shure if this assumption I made is right or not.

Btw, I have a MacBook Pro if this is usefull somehow.

Cheers

Really??? :? :(

Why are you saying this??
Is it not feasible? Or there's absolutely no interest in developing one?

read this thread, the firmware is very complex for these drives, near impossible to modify

I used Media Classic Player which came alongwith K-Lite Codec Pack to play a Region - 1 DVD on my drive , which is set to Region-6.

All other s/w refused to play RC DVDs, but this one did... Here is how :

My Comp = Laptop Acer Aspire 1640
DVD-+RW = Mashita DVD-RAM UJ-850S
Region Code = 6
DVD Decoder / Player already installed = Cyberlink PowerDVD 5.0 [Quite Old]

------WHAT I DID------

Download K-Lite Codec Pack 3.3.0 Full, latest ver from the link below :
http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=3689&s=95

While installing it, when you come to the "Which components should be installed" page, make sure you select :

1) Custom Selection [Drop-down menu]

2) DirectShow Video Filters -> MPEG-2, DVD-> ffdshow (libmpeg2)
THIS RADIO BUTTON SHOULD BE SELECTED.

3) Continue installing.

4) Start-> Programs->K-Lite Codec Pack-> Media Player Classic-> File-> Open DVD -> Select your dvd drive with media in it. {Give it sometime to init, and read from it's own decoder, your region coded dvd}

-----THAT'S ALL I DID------
No firmware updates, or patches.. This worked just fine. Those who have this drive, please try and post your experience(s) in this thread, so others can benefit.

All the best,
Gautam

All were discussed many times.

You may have luck with VLC Tool, but there is no guarantee ever.

Admin, You're right.. It totally depends from drive to drive. Guess I'm lucky (especially, cause I just bought it)

I might sound stupid that I'm sharing this now, but it's worth a mention. I downloaded and ran DVDRegion+CSS Free s/w 5.9.8.5, and that also allowed me to play the dvd in PowerDVD. When i right click and disable it from the system tray, and then run PowerDVD, i get that familiar REGION LOCK image with the world map.

Please don't mention such obviously not legal actions here.
The product is a commercial one, that means not free.
You can download the trial versions from the manufacturers site, anytime.
