I don't think that comes from the patched firmware. CDDA extraction speeds are ALWAYS lower than the maximum CD-ROM reading speed (which btw is theoretical), because extracting audio is much more demanding from the hardware. One of the differences is that there is no checksum at the end of an audio block (apart from the error correction mechanism) while there is one at the end of a CD-ROM data block This is why manufacturers do not boost the CDDA extraction speed because then the audio data might not be accurate...
