Just back from China, bought some BD-R medias from various brands to test the compatibility of UN08 on GBW-T10N, think it might be useful for you guys:

If did not specify, all are BD-R Single Layer 25GB media, letter in red are the codes in the inner rim of the disc, might be useful to identify the discs. I will upload some photos later if possible.

Works
VERBAT-IM0-000 Verbatim 2x
TDKBLD-WBA-000 TDK Printable 2x
VERBAT-IMb-000 Mitsubishi DL 50G 1x
RITEK-BR2-000 RBD4R015 2x (this should be RiData/Ritek)

Does Not Work
PHILIP-R04-000 Philips 4x (can write, but failed to close the disc)
Daxon-R2X-000 BenQ 2x
BenQ 4x
TDKBLD-RBA-000 TDK Non-Printable 2x
LGEBRA-S04-000 LG 2x
INFOME-R20-000 BDR R20 2x

Not Tested
BDRIC-401 4x
BDRIC-402 4x
BD-R VIII 2x
CMCMAG-BA3 4x
INFOME-R30 4x
VERBAT-IMc 4x
OTCBDR-001 4x
ISMMBD-R01 4x

LGEBRA-S04-000 are not supported by the firmware. INFOME-R20-000 and INFOME-R30-000 are DVD+R. Do you really have BD-R with this MID?

Yes, I am quite sure I have BD-R with this MID, I will post the screen capture later, and there is another link to the item listed on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Printable-25GB-2X-Blu-ray-Blank-Disc-2-pack-BD-R_W0QQitemZ330361405153QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBI_Blank_Media?hash=item4ceb12fee1

Please refer to the compatibility list, the MID code is stated there.

Hi ala42, you should post this info earlier, so I won't waste $ on INFOME-R20/R30, #-o

Is MCSE 1.2.0.4 going to support GBW-T10N UM08/UN08? It is sure a exciting news if so. :P

You should not waste any money on cheap crappy BD disks. Even if they are supported and occur in the media list, the write quality is questionable, if the writer completes writing at all.
The next MCSE release supports the GBW-T10N. IIRC the riplock and RPC2 autoreset patches are available, I have to check this again.

Hi,

I had a problem with the same HL-DT-ST GBW-T10N model.
I buyed this model over internet and I install it on a "HP HDX 16" computer having Windows Vista. Everything worked fine until few weeks ago when I tried to install Windows 7. From this moment, every time when I tried to see a blu-ray disk I receive the message: "Cannot play back the inserted disc. Ensure the disc drive you are currently using supports the playback of protected AVCREC content."

I reinstalled Windows Vista, but the error message continue to appear. I suppose there is a firmware problem.
Here are the details from Disc Info:

I downloaded the latest UN08 firmware, but I cannot make the update (maybe because the actual firmware is too old). Does somebody knows which is the solution to chnage the firmware? Do I have to install a previous firmware of UN08. Does somebody has it? Thanks.

n225 is not compatible with UN08 firmware.

Laptop drives follow other rules, they have OEM specific firmwares to work correctly.
I'm not so sure that the problems are firmware related but w7 related.

Thanks for your quick reply.
The reason why I thought that is a firmware related proble is because I reinstalled back the Windows Vista (where everything was OK) and still does not work.
Do you have any other idea about what the problem could be?

Before installing the Windows 7, I made a backup with Norton Ghost.
In order to reinstall the Vista version I used two ways: the first one by recovering the previous backup made with Norton Ghost and the second one by reinstalling Vista from a DVD (not from the recovery cd). The Vista version I used before (when it worked) was also from a DVD and was not the original installation.
The GBW-T10N Blu-ray was buyed after. The Blu-ray lector which came with the laptop work also on Vista and 7, but unfortunatelly it is not a Blu-ray writer. This is the reason why I replaced the original blu-ray with the GBW-T10N which has also the possibility to write Blu-ray.

what is giving the error message, windows itself or a third party software, you haven't say got nero installed? also ensure your graphics card drivers are upto date

The application which gives the error message is "HP MediaSmart DVD".
I tried also with "Power DVD Ultra v9" and "VLC Media Player" but I receive no errro with these applications ... simply does not play it.
Nero 9 is also installed.
The display drivers are up to date. If I put the original blu-ray player which cames with the computer, I can read the bd movies without any problem. The problems is that if I keep this player, I cannot write anymore blu-ray discs.

Updating to UN08 should work, the risk to use unofficial firmwares with LG Slimline SATA drives should be low. Check your PM.

i have updated to UN08 firmware. Now the writer starts to burn the Verbatim media but after a while errors occur and the media gets broken.
Any suggestions?

Thank you

Here's the error log:

DiskPeripheral : ST9500420AS iaStor Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off

Looks like a serious error!

Why is DMA for the ODD on and for the HDD off??
Is there an option in the BIOS for the sata controller setup?

Hi,
there's no option to enable DMA in the bios.
Now i've tried the UM08 firmware. With this firmware it's possible to burn the 25gb Verbatim media but the speed is max. 1x. Burning the 50gb Verbatim discs still destroys the discs.
It's curious.

I wasnt talking about DMA especially because DMA is irrelevant with SATA.
Important is the SATA controller setup, optimal would be "IDE compatible", but not all controllers allow that setting.

It seems that the former firmware wasnt suitable for your drive.

Who is the Laptop OEM?
I would contact them and tell them about the BD DL trouble! Don't tell them you crossflashed your drive!!!
Ask them for an firmware update instead.

Hi,
I've already asked LG and my notebook dealer for a firmware update. There isn't a firmware update available.
Does anyone have my former firmware (UL01)?
This drive sucks! (I've bought almost 10 optical drives in my life; This is the first one from LG and surely it'll be the last one!)
When there's no firmware then I have to buy a new drive which is able to burn BD-R DL and BD-R SL.
