Don't lose hope. LiteON drives are hard to kill :-)

I flashed my drive from CF12 to CX16 without any problem, but I used C0deKing's Flash utility to do it. Try flashing again either the CX16 or the CF12 from the above links using C0deKing's Flash utility instead of LtnFlash.
Alternatively you might try flashing again CF12 in DOS using XSF.

If it still doesn't work, as a last resort measure you might try to use my EEPROM backups for CF12 and CX16 posted in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=44813. Only do this as a last resort measure if the above two methods still fail, since the data in the EEPROM contains calibration data unique to each drive, and your drive might not work in optimal fashion with another drive's EEPROM. Use C0deKing's EEPROM utility for this.

If y'all don't mind my asking, this ejecting-issue is it a problem of the drive or this CX17 firmware? I downloaded the bin file, but didnt flash the drive cause I hadnt time, and now I saw the posts with the ejecting problem...

do not flash the CX17 firmware to your drive, it appears that within the firmware, there is something that alters the drives eeprom, which cause's the issue, if you have the drive with CA11 firmware in an Acer, please use the eeprom utility and backup the eeprom, and post here, please

Just So I get this correctly the CX17 firmware is is a bit buggy. I have been able to flash my DS8A1p drive to CX16 and it works fine. but I am not able to bitset the DVD+r or the DVDDL+r. my question is there a firmware that doesnt have the drive eject issue but lets you booktype the DVD's?

thank you in advance.

PS. The bitsettings is disabled in your Setting utility.
Attachment:
Slimtype_DVD_A_DS8A1P_CA11.rar

Thanks for the EEPROM file. Still no change with this one either. I've asked a contact at LiteOn if they can help but no reply as yet.

The bitsetting side of the Settings Utility works fine with my DS8A1P. Already changed DL to DVD-ROM. It's odd that it doesn't work for you.

Codeking which firmware are you using on th DS8A1P drive?

My HP Presario F500 (F579WM) - have same drive - Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P, but firmware is CH63.

My drive does not write DVD of any kind.

I try change my firmware on CS21 (Flash_Utility-2.2.4) but drive left off to read all of disks.
Then i recovered the former firmware. Now it is only read DVD.

It was Vista preinstalled. My current OS - WinXP.

What firmware supports a DVD write? DL-DVD is not needed.

akrtan, us the method I talk about in this post:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=43923&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=50#p214180

using LtnFlash v2.6.xx to flash your original firmware.

I'm using CX16, which works as well as can be expected for this drive, and it supports bitsetting.

I use LtnFlash v2.6.xx to flash new firmware - CA11.

Changes:
1) LED from drive become green (changes from yellow),
2) drive not read DVD.

So then i try to flash firmware using the SFlash feature in LtnFlash. Afrer reboot drive not read DVD. Then i use "full update" in SFlash feature in LtnFlash using CH63 - my native firmware.

After do that an error message flashes in progress window - "abnormal device" (also in progress window - was a message about skipping some bytes in flash). Then i reboot and have a problem - laptop is not booting (go to reboot after 15-20 sec.), entering in bios take about 10-15 sec. I run test of hdd in bios - hdd is ok. Bios is realy poor in features.

By ESC key i can choose boot device, but it become take ~30 sec to enter. There was only HDD boot. Winows is started.

Then i run LtnFlash - it see only virtual drive - no physical drive. Everest, Device Manager - see no Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P.

How can i return native firmware (CH63)?

I havе only CH63.bin file, mistakenly think firmware = eeprom. How can i get my native eeprom?
I have not used any other eeprom. Maybe eeprom is somewhere on the chip (hope dies last...)?

if you have the bin file, then use sflash, or mtkflash in dos

Hi I'm having problems burning double layer DVDs and I was wondering if you guys can help. I have a Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P drive in an Acer Aspire 5920. It was advertised as being able to burn duble layer disks and nero and daemon tools says it can also.

heres the printout from nero info tool

Drive : Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P
Type : DVD±R/RW DL Recorder
Firmware Version : CA14
Buffer Size : 2 MB
Date : 2007-06-06
Serial Number : 806020072902
Vendor Specific : 2007/06/06 19:44
Drive Letter : F:\
Location : 0:0
Mechanism : Tray
Read Speed : 6.0 , 4.0 , 2.0 X
Write Speed : 2.4 X

Image

I'm not trying to burn anything copy protected but thats the error I have been getting. I'm using RiData DVD+R DL disks and as soon as it starts to burn with any program, my cd tray ejects. I have tried about 4 or 5 different programs but none of them are working. Could it by my firmware version? Should I call up Acer since my laptop is still under warranty? Does this drive even support writing to DL disks?

Thank you for any help.

would another well known name brand be alright? I have had very good luck with all memorex disks (both cd and dvd) in the past. verbatim are just too darn expensive.

also, hypothetically, if it isn't the disk, what would the next step be?

The issue is the crap DL media.
Verbatim DL is the only reliable choice.
MemoWrecks is a hit and miss with Cd and DVD5, with DVD9 / DL its a desaster.

Thanks for the help. I stopped at a walgreens and picked up a 2 pack of Sony DVDs and it burned perfectly the first time, verified correctly, and even played in my DVD player. It was definitely the media.

However, when I went to Ritek's website, and found the compatibility list for Ritek media, the DS8A1P is on there, but the firmware that my media was tested on is CX17. I have read nothing but bad stuff about CX17 though.

Should I update my drive's firmware since mine is only CA14? What is the latest firmware I could upgrade to that works the best? I've searched the stickys and the links of the links in Puma's sig, but I can't find the DS8A1P listed anywhere.

CX17 is not for your drive, you need some other CAxx firmware!!!

@ mikem709,

Do yourself a BIG favor and absolutely totally forget about ANY Ritek DVD Media. It is a well-known and well-documented FACT that Ritek DVD Media is poor quality problematic Media which is plagued with serious reflectivity degradation and DL layer break issues. No Firmware is going to magically transform poor quality problematic Media into quality error free Media.

When using DL Media the ONLY DL Media that consistently produces quality error free results is Verbatim MKM001/MKM003 Mitsubishi Kagaku Media. ALL other DL Media is considered suspect and should be avoided (not used).

Regards,
Coaster

removing the region lock has no affect on bitsetting

Hi ! I have tried the xsf, but it didn`t work. It couldn`t recognize the flash rom. In vista , I can see the flash rom is EON by the Ltnflash.
My computer is HP V3631au

Thanks C0deKing! I've managed to repair it!!!

1. I downloaded XSF from http://codeguys.rpc1.org
2. I made a bootable USB-pendrive using "Format Utility for HP Drive Key or DiskOnKey USB Device" (http://www.eocfiles.com/bdc86eb1ed2989c ... P27608.exe) and "Windows XP MS-DOS Startup floppy" (http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/tools/b ... emsdos.zip)
3. I took out HDD from my laptop to be sure that I won't damage it :)
4. I booted the computer from pendive and flashed primary master ch. using DS8A1P_CA11_C0deKing firmware (from page 3)
5. The DVD drive became alive and fully functional.

That's excellent news. :) Thanks for sharing the info on the restore and creating the pendrive/flashdrive boot disc.
