I bought some Intenso DVD media IHQ 16X (UME02) and the dye is very light.
I have the impression that the best dye should be dark purple. Is this correct ?

In thi case you are a lucky one.

Which burner have you used with them?

Did you perform a quality scan on them (Nero cd dvd speed)??

I've used Nero 9.

Here they are, Nero CD-DVD Speed Quality Scan:

General Information
Drive: ASUS DRW-2014L1
Firmware: 1.00
Disc: DVD-R (UME02)
Selected speed: 8 X

PI errors
Maximum: 172
Average: 60.40
Total: 1072639

PI failures
Maximum: 5
Average: 0.11
Total: 15105

PO failures: n/a
Jitter: n/a
Scanning Statistics
Elapsed time: 9:46
Number of samples: 133736
Average scanning interval: 1.06 ECC
Glitches removed: 0

They don't look all that bad, with 5 PI failures.

It looks so, but your burner is not a reliable scanner. ;)

OK, So it's the burner now. I'll test the media on some more burners come Monday.
However playing the DVD on 4 DVD players + 4 computer drives (the oldest DVR 106D) without problems, I should think the performance is quite good for crappo media.

So I shall backup on some Taiyo Yuden as soon as I can. That should cover me.

Good burner or bad burner, Ume Disc is not very good stuff either way.
Indeed, switch to Verbatim/Mitsubishi or Taiyo Yuden.
