I have a Lite-On DVD-ROM (DH-20A4P) updated with firmware (9P59) from here (thanks!!). Yesterday in the middle of burning a DVD there was a "burning error", the disc ejected and the tray had to be pushed in manually and then wouldn't open again and the light on the front stays lit. After restarting computer, tray opens again after pressing button but will not register a disc in the drive. If I eject it I have to push it back in manually. Same thing over again. Troubleshooter says device is working normally. Microsoft DVD/CD diagnostic tool says DVD/RW has no burning capability. I have system restored but it didn't fix it. I also got a nasty Trojan about two weeks ago which deleted all my drivers and network adapters. I repaired it by re-installing Service Pack 3.
Up until yesterday the burner was working great. It is 18 months old. When I get home from work I'm going to pull it out and see if anything is loose and plug it back in. Is it time to get a new burner? Is something wrong with the laser, maybe?

I was actually using DVDFab6 after converting with ConvertXtoDVD3 and merging two discs with VirtualDub. I removed a lower class filter driver (Arcsoft Afc.sys) after going to IMGburn support and at the moment the burner is burning via ConvertXtoDVD. I wouldn't normally burn with that program but it seems to be working.
DVD has finished and has burned normally. Very weird. I made an ISO as well by building the two discs (I don't really know if that works, I've never tried it before) and will try and burn with IMGburn and I'll let you know what happens. I'll post the log when it is finished. Hopefully it works.

I think it is really weird that I am able to burn a dvd and the Microsoft Fix It tool still says my drive is not capable. Very weird!! See report below.

Try burning at 4x and use Imgburn...

Just begin using COREL MovieFactory and burned the first video to my computer DVD burner but it was very slow. So, I am in the market for an external, fast, DVD / AVCHD burner to interface with a Dell Windows XP machine. Any suggestions ?

Please use your video tool, output the video to an image/iso and burn that using Nero or Imgburn.
Then please post the logfile from that burn here.
